Cleveland mother is calling for justice and systemic change after her 5-year-old daughter was severely beaten and sexually assaulted last month by several boys under the age of 10, an attack she says has left her child traumatized and struggling to recover.

Antavia Kennibrew, who shared the details of the incident on Facebook, said her daughter, Amarie, was staying with a family member near East 145th Street and St. Clair Avenue on September 13 while Kennibrew underwent a medical procedure. According to Kennibrew’s account, Amarie left the home and was approached by three older boys, believed to be ages 8, 9 and 10; who lured her into a nearby field.

Kennibrew wrote that the boys beat her daughter until she was unconscious, sexually assaulted her, urinated on her and attempted to strangle her with her own shirt before leaving her naked and unresponsive. “I couldn’t believe what I saw in front of me,” she posted. “My daughter did not look like herself. She was traumatized.” Kennibrew described finding her child with hair ripped from her scalp, eyes filled with blood and bruises covering her body.

Kennibrew said two of the boys initially denied knowing where Amarie was but later returned with their mother and led family members to the child. “If them two kids’ mother did not make them boys go back to my family member and let her know where my daughter was at, my baby wouldn’t be found right now. My baby wouldn’t be alive,” she wrote.

The Cleveland Division of Police confirmed in a Facebook statement Tuesday morning that its Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit is investigating “a matter involving multiple children under the age of 10, both as victims and as suspects.” The department said no further information could be released “due to the sensitive nature of this case” and to protect the privacy and constitutional rights of those involved.

While she was away I got a phone call from my family member stating that my daughter walked out of her house and she couldn’t find her anywhere and that the authorities where contacted I I immediately was filled in panic I rushed out of my house and arrive to the scene soon as I got there I ran to the EMS truck where I found my daughter unresponsive, bloody with her hair pulled from her scalp her body covered in bruises her fingernails filled in dirt her eyes filled with blood her neck showing signs of strangulation her mouth and lips bloody her private area filled with debris and dirt and a big lump on her head. I couldn’t believe what I saw in front of me. My daughter did not look like herself. She was traumatized. She was shaking up a group of bigger kids, around ages 8, 9, and 10 walked up to my daughter, presenting their selves as friendly, took her by her hand and walked her to a field that was far away from the residence. In that field, they beat my daughter until she was unconscious. They ripped out her hair. They held my daughter down as they raped her. They also shoved sticks down her throat and down her private area. I never wanted to get the media involved because I didn’t want my daughter trauma plastered everywhere when she has the constantly see what happened to her and what she been through and I also trusted that she was going to get the justice that she needed. I am bringing this to the media today because the authorities are failing my daughter they are trying to tell me that two of the kids can’t and won’t be charged because they are 8, and 9 years old even though they attempted to murder my baby and they raped and beat her they are saying legally these two boys cannot be charged I need help and I need justice for my daughter I have reached out to legal aid and the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association for legal help I also reached out to rape crisis to get me a victim advocate that I was told can help me on the criminal justice side. I have been advocating for my daughter and I’m not getting any help. I also contacted the mayor of Cleveland, Ohio office to try and get help. I have not received any yet. I need you all to understand if them two kids mother did not make them boys go back to my family member and let her know where my daughter was at my baby wouldn’t be found right now my baby wouldn’t be alive. They literally tried to kill my daughter. These are not normal kids their selves and their parents need to be held accountable my daughter is not the same. She is having behavioral problems. She is mentally not. OK. I am mentally not. OK me not getting justice for my daughter makes me feel like I failed her. She is saying suicidal things she is breaking down she hates talking about what happened to her and I am breaking down with her I have set her up with a therapist and also seeking one for myself. I cannot sleep. I can barely eat. I keep repeatedly seeing images of my baby in that field. She is only five and these horrific things has happened to her. Please help please look at this as if it was your own kid. This is not gossip. This is not a funny matter. This is not nothing to not take serious. This is our life. Ohio prosecutors have charged a 10-year-old girl and 9-year-old boy with attempted murder, rape, assault, kidnapping, and strangulation for a brutal attack on a 5-year-old girl who had her "hair pulled from her scalp" and was left in a field to die, officials say.

The mom told police she dropped her daughter off that Saturday at a family member's house in Cleveland. The 5-year-old "walked out" the front door of the home undetected and was allegedly found by the "bigger kids," who presented themselves "as friendly," according to Kennibrew.

"[The children] took her by her hand and walked her to a field that was far away from the residence," Kennibrew alleged on Facebook. "In that field, they beat my daughter until she was unconscious. Antavia Kennibrew says the suspects left her daughter in the field and continued "playing" in the neighborhood. Her family member noticed that Kennibrew's child was gone and went outside to see if she was in the area, but all she found was the alleged suspects, per Kennibrew.

"My family member … walked up to them and asked them if they saw a little girl," Kennibrew explained. "They stared at her with no remorse and told her no and continue[d] playing knowing what they had just done to my daughter."

Authorities were called and the children eventually came back over to the family member with one of their parents to explain where Kennibrew's daughter was, according to the mom. Kennibrew was alerted by the relative and she rushed over to find EMS treating her daughter several blocks over.

A 9-year-old boy accused of attempted murder and rape made his first court appearance on Thursday in Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court, but without any legal guardian.

The boy is charged along with a 10-year-old girl in an attack on a 5-year-old victim. The boy was supposed to appear in court last week but didn’t show up, prompting Judge Kristin Sweeney to threaten a warrant if he didn’t come on Thursday.

The boy appeared wearing a face mask, dressed in a green hoodie and black pants, staying quiet as the prosecutor outlined the charges on Nov. 13.

“This case results in a 5-year-old being left naked, beaten, and urinated upon in a field and left for hours. At a very minimum, the state is requesting home detention with an ankle monitor,” the prosecutor said.

The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor confirmed the 9-year-old boy showed up to court on Thursday with two adults that are possible relatives, but no legal guardian.

Judge Sweeney then set an emergency custody hearing for the 9-year-old boy on Friday morning.

The Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Juvenile Division confirmed the judge since learned the boy’s mother is hospitalized, and his father is deceased.


Records show the court was unable to confirm the validity of the familial relationship of the two adults who accompanied him to the arraignment, or the safety of the child.

“Additionally, there have been threats made to the safety of the child and his family, and including family members beyond the parents leading to an unstable living environment as the family moves from place to place in response to the threats,” court records state.

That hearing on Nov. 14 resulted in Judge Sweeney ordering the boy being placed in the emergency temporary care and custody of the Cuyahoga County Division of Children and Family Services.

The order for home detention with a GPS monitor is suspended while the child’s exact placement while in CCDCFS’ custody is in flux, according to the court records.

The 10-year-old female suspect in this case was in court last week. The judge also put her on home detention with an ankle monitor.

I think they should be tried in adult court and if found guilty of the charges placed in a secure juvenile facility until they are 18.

At that time evaluate them to see if they can be safely returned to the community and if not than they should finish the remainder of their sentence {If there is any) in an adult prison.

If the allegations are proven to be true this is a very serious crime that does not magically disappear when these monsters turn 18.
