A Las Cruces mother and father have each been charged with child abuse after their 4-month-old tested positive for drugs.

Sarah Virginia Brewer, 31, and Alexander Baca Gonzalez, 41, were arrested at the Motel 6.

Child Protective Services was called to investigate after receiving reports the two were using drugs near their infant.

The 4-month-old baby was given a drug test and tested positive for amphetamine, marijuana and methamphetamine, according to court documents.

Brewer and Gonzalez also tested positive for multiple drugs, including heroin, which Gonzalez allegedly told investigators was their drug of choice.

Court documents state Gonzalez said the family was going through a hard time because they were recently evicted and had been moving from motel to motel throughout the city.

That poor baby has seen more in the 4 months of his life than most 40 year olds ever will. I also can't help but wonder about the the people that called CPS. I mean they were obviously there when drugs were being used with the baby there as well... I usually didn't pull my drugs out and start doing my thing with anyone that didn't do drugs too. All I am saying is that it's wonderful that they sought help for the boy but probably guilty of using drugs around the kid too.
