A 21-year-old New Jersey man has been charged in the death of a 19-year-old woman he was allegedly having rough sex with after a
Halloween party.
Michael T. Gaffney, 21, was charged with reckless manslaughter Saturday, following the autopsy of Francis Victoria Garcia, 19, according to the
Daily Voice.
Garcia was found dead in a car that was parked in a detached parking lot at a high-rise in Hackensack, New Jersey, Friday night.
Earlier in the night, the woman was said to have been attending a loud Halloween party on the 14th floor of the building, before she left with a man in his 20s - since identified as Gaffney - according to the
Daily Voice.
A 911 call about Garcia was said to have come in to the operator at about 2.14am Friday. First responders then transported her to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Authorities said that police then interviewed Gaffney, who apparently told them that the woman had lost consciousness while they were having sex in her car on the garage's top level.
Gaffney also allegedly told police that they had taken prescription medication prior to the incident.
It was not immediately clear whether Garcia and Gaffney knew each other previously or if they'd just met at the party.
An autopsy was conducted Saturday to determine whether Garcia died from a bout of rough car sex or a drug overdose. Either way, her death had been deemed 'suspicious.'
A law enforcement source told the Daily Voice that Garcia had bruises on her neck consistent with Gaffney's claim.
