Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police were investigating a double homicide and suicide Saturday night. They said the victims were two children, and their mom jumped off a bridge.

Police forced their way into the home where they found a 7-year-old Isaiah Miller and a 3-year-old Iliyah Miller. The two kids who were badly assaulted were taken to the hospital where they later died.

Detectives believed their mother, 34-year-old Christina Treadway, assaulted them before jumping to her death off Old Gum Branch Road bridge onto I-485.

Police are working to figure out Treadway's motives.

"That's at the core of this investigation. What would cause somebody to obviously be so despondent to take their own life and then take the lives of their children," an investigator with CMPD said. "That's going to be a key component in the investigation and we're nowhere near being able to speak on that."

Police say nobody else was inside the home where the children were found.

CHARLOTTE, NC – Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said 34-year-old Christina Treadway killed her two children before committing suicide by jumping off a highway bridge.

Police responding to a call about a woman who committed suicide Saturday afternoon found the body of Treadway on Interstate 485 after she jumped off the Old Gum Branch Road bridge.

Officials say “key information” led police to Treadway’s home where they found the dead woman’s two children, 7-year-old Isaiah Miller and 3-year-old Iliyah Miller, were alone and badly injured.

Responding paramedics and firefighters tried to save the children’s lives as they were transported to Carolinas Medical Center, but they were both pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

CMPD officials said their investigation revealed that Treadway physically assaulted her children before jumping off the bridge and killing herself.

Investigators are looking into what would cause Treadway to harm her children. The father of the two kids has been located and is not considered a suspect.

“Obviously, that’s at the core of this investigation: What would cause someone to be so despondent to want to take their own life and take the lives of their children,” said CMPD Maj. Mike Smathers. “But that’s going to be a key component of the investigation, and we’re nowhere near ready to speak on that.”

On Treadway’s Facebook account, that has since been removed, she recently posted a graphic promoting mental health awareness. She also has a Youtube Channel that is currently active. It has 20+ videos that mainly feature her children singing and\or dancing.

Two GoFUndme accounts have been created in relation to this incident. One by Treadway’s family who are asking for $10,000 to travel from California and help with funeral expenses. The other from a man claiming to be the father of the two children.

As far as I've been able to discover, the exact details of the children's "life-threatening injuries" have not been publicly released yet. So we don't actually know she beat them to death, unless you have a source I missed?

I have no clue at all what could take someone from (apparently) loving two happy, talented little children to murdering them. I'm just sad it happened, poor tykes.

It's been nearly a week since a father found out that the mother of their two children killed the kids, then committed suicide.

“It’s the hardest thing I’ve had to go through in my life,” he said.

The father of 7-year-old Isaiah and 3-year-old Illiyah Miller spoke only to FOX 46 hours after funeral of his two kids.

“I wish the best life for my children and as a father not being able to see them grow up and share all those memories as I had as a kid it's really heartbreaking.”

Police say the two kids were killed by their mother, Jan. 13 before she took her life by jumping off the I-485 bridge.

“I loved those kids with everything in me and I love Tina also.”

And although the kids were put to rest Friday, their father says their legacy will be everlasting.

“I raised some beautiful kids who had the world at their fingertips and you know what I’m still a dad and they live with me and I’m going to carry their name on.”

Autopsy: Mom strangled kids before leaping to her death from bridge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Autopsy results released Monday reveal two children who authorities say were killed by their mother before she leapt to her death from a North Carolina interstate bridge likely died by strangulation, reports CBS affiliate WBTV.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded in January after the woman dropped onto the asphalt onto Interstate 485. Officers say 34-year-old Christina Elizabeth Treadway was dead at the scene.

Police say they went to the woman's home and inside found two children suffering from fatal wounds. Treadway's 3-year-old-daughter Iliyah Miller and 7-year-old son Isaiah Miller died at a hospital. No one else was inside the home.

The autopsy released Monday states the cause of death for the two children was "asphyxia due to probable strangulation," WBTV reports.
