According to Fayette County Sheriff Mike Fridley, deputies were dispatched just before 10:30 a.m. today after being notified by utility workers that they had found a toddler on the side of the road alone.
Fridley said that the child was found with no shoes, no jacket, and was standing in the snow.
The workers told deputies that they had tried to find where the toddler had come from, but the snow had already recovered his tracks.
Deputies were able to locate the child’s mother, Mackenzie B. Ewing, and she was subsequently arrested and charged. Child Protective Services came to the location and took custody of the child.
Ewing, 31 of Pax, is charged with the felony offense of Gross Child Neglect Creating a Risk of Substantial Injury or Death.
