A Saginaw man is accused of abusing an infant and assaulting the child's mother.

Police allege a domestic dispute was taking place between the female resident and her 25-year-old boyfriend, Michael Southward, prosecutors allege.

The disagreement turned violent and the woman tried running away, only for Southward to throw her to the ground and start choking her, prosecutors allege. The woman was holding her 8-month-old daughter in her arms, prosecutors allege
The mother eventually let the baby go. Southward then picked up the child and started swinging her around, threatening to slam her into a wall, prosecutors allege.

Southward left the residence when his girlfriend said she was calling police.

Prosecutors did not state if the child was injured.
The judge ordered Southward have no contact with his girlfriend or her child. The girlfriend, though requested the judge allow her to have peaceable contact, a request the judge denied.

The judge also instructed the girlfriend to attend classes at the Underground Railroad, a provider of "emergency shelter, services, leadership and programs to end domestic and sexual violence." The judge will review the girlfriend's request once she's completed those classes.

As a survivor of extreme domestic violence I am hoping the classes help her realize what her and her daughter live in is dangerous and unhealthy. I went six years with no relationships to restructure my life and heal. I have a guy that is a 180 from my abusive one. The chances of her doing what I have done are slim but in my heart I think the judge handled it right and maybe it will make the difference..❤️

I’m betting she probably left her Domestic Violence class and went home with one of the dudes in the Anger Management class across the hall.
