Police in Massachusetts said a woman was charged with animal cruelty after three cats were found dead in her overheated car on Tuesday.

According to the New Bedford Police Department, two officers received a report of animals trapped inside a car at Seabra Foods.

Officers saw a black cat moving inside the car and were met with foul odor from within the car when they arrived at the scene, police said.

Officials said the temperature inside the vehicle was 106 degrees in the front and 131 in the rear side of the car.

The owner of the vehicle, 53-year-old Brandi Lyn Mosher, told officers the three cats have been living in the car.

Mosher said she left the car parked for two hours with an electric fan and food and water inside, according to police.

Police said they found two dead cats inside the vehicle that appeared to have been dead for several weeks.

We grabbed the first cat ... which was the live cat and then we started looking for others, which we were told they were alive, and as we started pulling everything out of the car -- we noticed the crates with the carcasses of the dead animals inside," Maciel said.

Another dead cat was discovered in the car at a later investigation.


According to police, Mosher was arrested and charged with four counts of animal cruelty.
