Mallory Kemple, 23, was charged Monday with two counts of misdemeanor child abuse, according to police.
The Wake Forest Police Department began investigating after two children were injured at Wake Forest KinderCare, located at 1201 Friendship Chapel Road. The day care center told WRAL News on Wednesday that Kemple is no longer a KinderCare employee.
The incidents occurred in April and August and involved a 15-month-old and a 3-year-old child, according to arrest warrants.
“If the first violation happened in April, she shouldn’t have still been working there,” an unnamed parent told WRAL News.
The parent provided emails sent by KinderCare Center Director Carrie Goodall, dating back to Aug. 20.
In the first email, Goodall acknowledges a police presence at the facility and “concerns involving one child at our center were brought to our attention.” However, the first email does not address any employee involvement.
Continue readingGoodall continues saying, “I want you to know that if I ever had any concerns about your child, I would notify you right away.” Goodall does not include more information, citing “privacy reasons.”
On Wednesday, the parent shared another email from Goodall. Again, citing privacy, the message does not name Kemple or accusations against her. It also only references one child that was impacted, despite charges stating there are two. It does make note of Kemple’s employment saying in part, “This teacher will not work for KinderCare or any of our brands again.”
The 15-month-old suffered bruising to the chest, ribs and back, and the 3-year-old suffered injuries to the back, the warrant states.
