German prosecutors believe Madeleine McCann — the British girl who vanished from a Portuguese resort in 2007 — is dead, as the prime suspect in her disappearance has been identified, according to reports Thursday.

Prosecutors have launched a criminal investigation into the 43-year-old German national on suspicion of murder charges, the Guardian reported.

“From this you can see that we assume that the girl is dead,” said Braunschweig state prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters.

The suspect has not been identified by authorities as per privacy rules, but his name — Christian Brueckner — was outed in German newspaper Der Spiegel, the Telegraph said.

Brueckner is a sex offender and drug trafficker who is serving a seven-year sentence for raping a 72-year-old American tourist, according to German media.

That's one of the biggest problems with these weak on crime pussy countries. What reason does a criminal have to talk, to admit guilt, concede anything, if the stiffest penalty on the table is slight as fuck already? There's no fear of spending the rest of your life in a harsh cell, no risk of death penalty, there's nothing that can be put on the table to get someone to come clean in order for a lighter sentence....cuz the sentence would be light regardless. Why not take your chances?

The difference is that guy was just a bizarre, freaky weirdo, like a Michael Jackson type. This dude here is a convicted rapist, to include child rapist, and a career criminal, who was proven to be in the area at the time of the abduction and apparently fled, under odd circumstances(registered car in someone elses name for ex).

The building has a number of old wells on its land and a path leading to a beach Madeleine went to.
The Judicial Police was yesterday considering searching the abandoned shafts in Praia da Luz for Madeleine's body, according to Portuguese newspaper Sol.

Officers earlier this month were understood to be looking to dig up land around two houses Brueckner lived in while in Praia da Luz.

The other building sits on a hill above the resort, about 11 minutes away from the Ocean Club the McCanns were staying.

A Portuguese source told the Sun: 'Judicial Police have confirmed they have been approached by German authorities in connection with the case and they will undoubtedly be prepared to carry out fresh searches in the hope of giving the McCanns closure.

'The obvious focus would be around the hillside former farm building and another property nearby with links to him.'

Brueckner's rented home has a number of old wells on its land and a path leading to a beach Madeleine went to
Kate and Gerry reportedly face being told within days how their daughter died as their Portuguese lawyer is set to meet with senior police.

German detectives say they have one piece of evidence that proves the child is dead.

I'm guessing there was a confession and they are waiting to find the body to determine authenticity before releasing it. Whatever he told the investigator in Germany, it was bad enough that the investigator took it seriously enough to want to prepare the parents for the eventuality.

ETA: There may be beans spilled in the other crimes as well they are processing. Seems to be a serial killer of children and young women.

German police investigating the disappearance of British girl Madeleine McCann have reportedly found an underground cellar in a garden in Germany linked to the latest suspect.

Police were using excavators, sniffer dogs, shovels and rakes to investigate the plot, on the outskirts of Hannover.

On Wednesday, investigators put up two tents and continued to dig even further into the ground after they had cut down trees and bushes earlier this week, the German news agency DPA reported.

Prosecutors did not say what the investigators were looking for, however, there are reports police discovered a sealed-off cellar.

Maybe he did do it, but I've never heard of any concrete evidence that someone took her as opposed to parents doing something to her.

The incident occurred after Christian Brueckner, who is serving time on a drug conviction, was taken to Braunschweig state court on Monday for a routine hearing on that case.

Court spokeswoman Jessica Knab-Henrichs told The Associated Press that he was briefly treated in a hospital for two broken ribs, and was then returned to the court where the hearing was carried out.

Convicted pedophile Christian Brueckner had access to the compound, located in Portugal’s southern Algarve region where McCann, 3, disappeared in 2007, according to a report. The compound reportedly belonged to Brueckner’s former German girlfriend, Nicole Fehlinger.

The compound came to light after German federal authorities recently interviewed Fehlinger’s father, Dieter, for a second time.

“No one knows that my daughter not only had the private residence in Portugal at her disposal, but also a separate compound,” he told The Mirror newspaper. “No one has ever searched there or the property has never turned up in connection with Maddie.”

Fehlinger said the large compound was overgrown with weeds and guarded by four “aggressive” Kangal dogs day and night.
