Lynchburg Mother Arrested In infant’s Death

Lynchburg Police have arrested a 23-year-old woman in connection with the death of her infant.

Endia Walker faces charges of three counts of felony child neglect and one count of felony child neglect resulting in serious injury. That list of charges was clarified by police, who at first said charges included cruelty or injuries to children.

No information has been released about the circumstances or official cause of the infant’s death.

"[The baby] had several open sores to the extent, portions of his skin was peeling away," search warrants said.

Detective Dempsey, who is working the case, interviewed the mother of the baby, 23-year-old Endia Walker, according to the warrants.

"Endia admitted she would leave [the baby] and other children unattended for extensive periods of time without anyone supervising the children," the warrants read.

The warrants say she left the children unattended for days in early March, when she was arrested for a DUI in Bedford County, during which time "the children were reported to be wandering in the complex unaccompanied."

Now Walker is facing these charges:

• Three counts of felony child neglect under Virginia code 40.1–103.
• One count of felony child neglect resulting in serious injury under Virginia code 18.2–371.1.
