The beauty of that double-barrelled plea -- "Not Guilty" and "Not Guilty because Insane" -- is he is simultaneously saying, "I didn't do it", and, "I did it but I'm nuts". NGRI pleas don't succeed very often; something like 1/4 of 1% of accused people get that as a verdict. Of course, getting a NGRI verdict doesn't mean he walks out the door free as a bird; he will still be locked up.
