24-year-old Jerilyn Jones faces child abuse and assault charges after prosecutors say she tried to drown one or both of her babies.

Police were called to a home Saturday, where Jones was with her two kids age 13 months old and 2 months old. The babies did not appear to be hurt when officers got there.

Police say Jones has a history with Child Protective Services.

The children were released into the care of another civilian adult. Prosecutors did not divulge additional details, though police confirmed Jones has a history with Child Protective Services.

Jones on Monday, Sept. 27, appeared before Saginaw County District Judge M. Randall Jurrens for arraignment on single counts of second-degree child abuse and assault with intent to do great bodily harm-strangulation. Both charges are punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

At the arraignment, defense attorney Ann Chamberlain said Jones works two full-time jobs and has lived at her current abode for about three years. She asked Jurrens set a reasonable bond.

Citing the charges’ seriousness, Jurrens set Jones’ bond at $500,000 cash-surety or 10%. If she posts it, she is prohibited from having contact with anyone younger than 18. She is also subject to GPS lockdown at her home should she be released from jail, Jurrens said.

Jones herself did not speak at her arraignment.

Jones is to appear for a preliminary examination at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 11.

Maybe should not have refilled the Pez machine so quickly they wouldn't be popping out so quickly.. if you are working two full time jobs you're obviously not the one raising them and you could always sign your rights away and walk away.. why don't I see attempted murder charges!? Drowning infants and toddlers doesn't count for murder these days..
