WARNING: DISTRESSING CONTENT - A Cambodian slaughterhouse would process between 2000 and 5000 dogs a year, according to animal welfare charity Four Paws

An animal welfare charity has shut down what appeared to be a dog meat farm that butchered family pets.

Pictures show how dogs would be held in holding pens before being butchered with some even turned into bar snacks.

The Cambodian slaughterhouse was processing between 2,000 and 5,000 dogs a year, according to animal welfare charity Four Paws.

Dr Katherine Polak, a veterinarian at Four Paws, first heard about the slaughterhouse from local restaurants who used it as a supplier.

The first thing she saw at the rural property in the Takeo province, just outside of Phnom Penh, was a dying tree with caged dogs underneath.

She told Yahoo News : “The tree was apparently in full bloom about a year ago, but it’s just been dying from all the blood and urine and faeces.

“There’s a smell, there’s a stench to it, it’s really heartbreaking.”

“The farmer would hit them over the head and then put their back legs into the cage,” she said.

“So the other dogs would watching this, waiting for their turn.

I agree over the top sensationalism, like the tree thing
First time she saw it was dead, but she assumes.
Not in favor of slaughtering dogs, but don’t appreciate bullshit either

Aside from any mistreatment of the animals that occurred, I don't see what the big deal is. I actually had it served to me years ago in Korea as breaded medallions to be dipped in sauce and vaguely remember it having the texture of a veil, but didn't taste as good.

I'm not against people eating dogs, cats, horses or any other species of animals so long as the animals do not suffer while waiting their death.

The worst thing the US ever did to horses is close all the slaughter houses.
Horses have continued to be slaughtered. But now they must be trucked for days in over crowded conditions.

This kind of torture and terrorizing of dogs en masse in certain awful asian counties is real and this story is not necessarily sensationalized.

Dogs aren't a livestock species, never have been, if you don't count a few cruel and sicko cultures. The people who cruelly beat them to death are usually a sick kind of psycho.

Horse slaughter for human consumption is specifically, to my knowledge, what's not allowed in USA (unless its changed recently, since I heard that the baddies were trying to get it re-started at least a few years ago).

I hope they can somehow end that whole USA horse slaughter industry somehow. The shitty racehorse-people and the Amish and everyone else screwing around with horses should be forced to provide humane treatment and retirement for the horses they injure or otherwise use up, instead of getting to flush them down the toilet and move on to the next set of animals.

Actually, horse racing itself is bad and stupid, but good luck stopping that in USA at this time.

Supposedly, the texture and taste of horse meat improves as the animal ages, which is the opposite of beef. I think that is bad twist of luck for horses worldwide.

I do the same before Easter. Keep the live stock penned up and fattened starting in February or March. Depending on how big the rabbits are around New Years.
Same with the Geese who will be murdered in a few weeks for Thanksgiving.
You think that's bad? I wait to kill nursing mothers until the piglets are ready to be weaned. It's the only way we can stomach wild boars, since they eat rotten meat around here.

Talking about cute bunnies. I got a few aggressive males that will be executed Friday night. So for all you animal rights activist I'll be snapping the fluffy bunnies neck and laugh my ass off. Hell, few of the grand kids can swing an axe like Lizzy Borden, so who knows?
You know you raised your children right if their kids can pluck a chicken faster than you. Not strong enough to snap a neck per say but they all can split wood without hitting a leg.
So now they can say "Off with their heads!"
Funny how my kids treat their food with more respect and dignity than 90% of welfare parents treat their disposable children.

My grandpa and dad both union tin men hobbie farmed with livestock and crops, bailing hay,to make extra money and feed horses and such, back not long before I was born 1970 grandpa would toss a few farm cats in a cage to take to the livestock auction house when selling cows, a guy came through every so often on a schedule to buy the cats to resell for companies to experiment on. Most people would never know this was a thing. people have to eat and they utilized local resources, haven't seen a story on dog shortages there.
