“The Goonies” is finally getting the sequel treatment.

A follow-up film to the 1985 cult classic about a group of adventurous kids is in the works, according to a new report from the Sun.

The outlet reported that the cast members from the original movie are expected to return for the sequel.

Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen, Kerri Green, Ke Huy Quan and Martha Plimpton starred in the film.

Several cast members have died including John Matuszak, Anne Ramsey, Mary Ellen Trainor, Keith Walker and Lupe Ontiveros.

The sequel, according to the Sun, is scheduled to film next year, with a possible release date in 2026 or 2027.

Saw this movie at a screening in NYC when I was a kid. My mom's boss had tickets but could not go so he gave it to us, got to see it before the "general public" got to-my first and last time and I loved the movie then as I do now. I am curious to see what they come up with for a sequel for this now classic, I hope they don't beat it up, sequels are usually good or bad not to much wiggle room

The sequel is not going to count unless if they're fighting against an evil and menacing clown who lives in the sewers and wears an overabundance of makeup.

Goonies 2: The Kidult Kidnapping Plot Thickens!

Detroit, which is in Michigan, is essentially one gigantic sewer. So is Flint, which I've heard has such great water. Big water. Lansing, the capital, is probably slightly better, maybe. I really don't care if it actually is.

By extension, Michigan has a reputation of being a statewide sewer. A very deindustrialized sad place whose population has stagnated in recent decades. Even decreasing, albeit slightly, between 2000 and 2010. The only state to decrease in that timeframe. Sad!

At least the Great Lakes is an exceptional place to float. They all float up there!

Once this post gets unearthed in about 15 years, the mainstream media will cancel me so hard!

By the way, I don't think I've seen this film in its entirety. Maybe I did 20ish years ago, maybe not.

Cool As Ice might be the best movie ever made. Epic choice for your avatar, @Morbid
Only one person could pull off lines such as, I'm going across the street to shling a schlong or here's some advice, drop that zero and get with the hero. He could ride his motorcycle in one direction, then jump through a wall on the 2nd floor in the opposite direction, while the studs were placed 6 feet apart.

Well... I don't put any faith behind Corey Feldman, but this doesn't look good.

Goonies sequel thrown into doubt after Corey Feldman DENIES any knowledge of plans to reunite 40 years after the original - as insiders reveal no one has been informed

The highly anticipated Goonies sequel has been thrown into question after Corey Feldman denied any knowledge of the project, as insiders claim cast members have not been informed of any plans to reunite.

Fans voiced their apprehension last week after it was reported that a second film had been given the greenlight almost four decades after the original.

While it had been claimed that the original star-studded cast was set to return for the movie, a source has since revealed to DailyMail.com that neither Sean Astin nor Feldman, both 53, have been asked.

I just saw the new Beetlejuice-nowhere near enough Michael Keaton in it-he really makes the movie-and nowhere near as good as the first one IMO. Sequels are tricky at best, let alone decades after the fact. I did like the Ghostbusters sequel-the one with Melissa McCarthy and cast, I enjoyed that one even tho it was different characters, they all worked well together and made for a funny movie "the power of Peggy compels you!!"

On a side note when I was a kid-like 9 yrs old. I had it BAD for Sean Astin, yup his brace faced mug from the Goonies hung proudly on my wall-now...he not so cute anymore... :)

How many sequels are as good or better than the first? The list is very short. I'm surprised there isn't another Friday the 13th or nightmare on elm street on the horizon, they can be killed a few hundred more times.
