According to Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay, the District Office has completed the review process into a homicide that occurred on Jan. 27, 2026.
The Topeka Police Department responded to a medical call and located a five-year-old with life-threatening injuries. She was taken to a local hospital, where she later died.
A criminal death investigation was initiated. As a result of the investigation, two people, Lia Corbin, 24, and Kyle Valle, 35, both of Topeka, were arrested.
Corbin has been charged with the following crimes:
- Murder in the First Degree; Premeditation- Off Grid Felony
- Murder in the First Degree; Inherently Dangerous Felony- Off Grid Felony
- Aggravated Endangering a Child- Level 9 Felony
- Abuse of a Child-Level 3 Felony
- Interference with Law Enforcement; evidence- Level 8 Felony
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia- Misdemeanor
Valle has been charged with the following crimes:
- Murder in the First Degree; Premeditation- Off Grid Felony
- Murder in the First Degree; Inherently Dangerous Felony- Off Grid Felony
- Aggravated Endangering a Child; reckless situation to a child- Level 9 Felony
- Abuse of a Child- Level 3 Felony
- Interference with Law Enforcement; evidence- Level 8 Felony
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia- Misdemeanor
