Two Des Moines residents were charged with attempted murder Tuesday after a shooting on the city's northeast side.
Laura Ann Dickey, 34, and Eleazar Raul Villanova, 41, were arrested after Dickey drove Villanova to shoot her former boyfriend, authorities said.
Sgt. Paul Parizek, a Des Moines police spokesman, said Dickey got into an argument Tuesday morning with her ex-boyfriend and confided with her neighbor, Villanova. Dickey then drove Villanova to the apartments west of East 14th Street on East Seneca Avenue in the city's Highland Park neighborhood.
There, the two saw Dickey's ex-boyfriend walking across a yard. Villanova jumped out of the car with a handgun and began chasing and shooting at the man, Parizek said.
No one was injured by the gunfire, which officers responded to at 10:15 a.m. A truck parked at a building in the 1200 block of East Seneca Ave was struck several times.
Villanova fired 11 rounds, authorities said. The gun was supplied to him by Dickey, according to a criminal complaint.
At her home about eight blocks west, Dickey began drinking and started feeling guilty, Parizek said. When officers arrived at her house, she explained what happened.
Villanova, who authorities have called a known gang member, was walking in the area. As officers approached him, he ditched the gun; it was later found in nearby weeds, police said. He was also charged with possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and second-degree harassment.
The two were booked Tuesday afternoon in the Polk County Jail, where they were held without bond. Neither yet had an attorney who could be reached for comment.
