A gunman sporting a rifle and body armor opened fire in a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, killing at least 10 people before being taken into custody Saturday afternoon, law enforcement officials told The Associated Press.

Details on the number of additional people shot at the Tops Friendly Market and their conditions weren't immediately available. The two officials were not permitted to speak publicly on the matter and did so on the condition of anonymity.

Investigators believe the man may have been livestreaming the shooting and were looking into whether he had posted a manifesto online, the official said. The official cautioned the investigation was in its preliminary stages and that authorities hadn't yet discerned a clear motive, but were investigating whether the shooting was racially motivated.

The supermarket is in a predominately Black neighborhood, about 3 miles (5 kilometers) north of downtown Buffalo. The surrounding area is primarily residential, with a Family Dollar store and fire station near the store.

Buffalo police confirmed the shooter was in custody in a tweet, but did not identify the suspect. Police officials and a spokesperson for the supermarket chain did not immediately respond to messages from the AP seeking comment.

Witnesses reported the gunman was wearing military-style clothing in addition to the body armor, one of the officials said

Braedyn Kephart and Shane Hill, both 20, pulled into the parking lot just as the shooter was exiting. They described him as a white male in his late teens or early twenties sporting full camo, a black helmet and what appeared to be a rifle.

“He was standing there with the gun to his chin. We were like what the heck is going on? Why does this kid have a gun to his face?" Kephart said. He dropped to his knees. “He ripped off his helmet, dropped his gun, and was tackled by the police.”

Police closed off the block, lined by spectators, and yellow police taped surrounded the full parking lot. Mayor Byron Brown and Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz were at the scene late Saturday afternoon, gathered in a parking lot across the street from the Tops store and expected to address the media.

Gov. Kathy Hochul tweeted that she was “closely monitoring the shooting at a grocery store in Buffalo,” her hometown. She said state officials have offered help to local authorities. The Erie County Sheriff’s Office said on social media that it ordered all available personnel to assist Buffalo police.

A man has opened fire at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York while live-streaming on Twitch, killing at least 8 people and injuring several others, local officials and witnesses say. He also posted an online manifesto in which he described himself as a white supremacist.

The incident began on early Saturday afternoon when police were called for an active shooter at Tops Markets at 1275 Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo. Upon arrival, officers found victims on the ground outside the store and others inside the building itself.

The exact number of victims was not immediately clear, but the Associated Press cited a law enforcement source as saying that at least 8 people were killed. Multiple victims were shot in the head. At least two of the bodies were visible outside the store.

The Buffalo Police Department confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody. In a video shared on Facebook, a man in military fatigues can be seen being taken into custody. He appeared to have been armed with a semi-automatic rifle.

Saturday’s attack was live-streamed on Twitch and screenshots from the recording showed horrific scenes, including a woman who is shot in the head as she walks outside the store. In other screenshots, victims can be seen on the floor of the supermarket.

A 106-page online manifesto, believed to have been uploaded by the shooter, explained that he was motivated by a conspiracy theory that white people are being replaced by other races. In the document, he says he is 18 years old and a self-described white supremacist and anti-semite.

“If there’s one thing I want you to get from these writings, it’s that White birth rates must change. Everyday the White population becomes fewer in number,” the document says. “To maintain a population the people must achieve a birth rate that reaches replacement fertility levels, in the western world that is about 2.06 births per woman.”

BNO News is not publishing the document released by the shooter.

There is definitely a reason why he chose that area for his crimes.
It is kind of quiet to a minor degree.
The funny thing is in most of Buffalo the population is very black.
This neighborhood is one of the quieter ones for the most part and would be comparatively easy to target.
I suppose the reason he wouldn't have tried to pull this nonsense on the east side is that he would have been met with a flurry of gunfire from potential victims.
That would have ended with maybe one or two people down and a dead shooter no question about it.

Got to say if you're going to be racist, living in Buffalo is probably not the best choice for residency.
Little psycho should have put a bullet in his head.
It is rather unfortunate that the police didn't
God knows he earned it.

The families must be going through absolute hell right now.
At least a little prick is in custody.
Toss him in general population in Erie county jail and you won't have to worry about a trial.
He'd be dead within 3 hours.

So often Buffalo gets a bad rap in the news.
They have such interesting architecture and some amazing food.
I can't really recall the last time they had a mass shooting there or if they're even has been one in the past.

Ten people were killed and three others suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals after a mass shooting at a supermarket on Buffalo’s East Side Saturday afternoon.

The shooter was an 18-year-old white male who was heavily armed with tactical gear and was live-streaming during the mass shooting, officials said. City of Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said the shooter is not from Buffalo and traveled “hours” from outside the area.

“This was pure evil,” Erie County Sheriff John Garcia said. “A straight-up racially motivated hate crime.”

The shooter was identified in court Saturday evening as Payton S. Gendron of Conklin, New York, about 200 miles southeast of Buffalo.

Gendron was arraigned on one count of first-degree murder without bail.

When Gendron exited his vehicle at the supermarket, authorities said, he shot four people in the parking lot. Three of them died and one is in the hospital. The shooter entered the store and opened fire on customers.
A retired Buffalo Police officer, Aaron Salter, who was working as a security guard, shot Gendron but he was unharmed because he was wearing armor, Gramaglia said. The retired officer was shot and killed.

A law enforcement source told CBS News that the gunman had a racial slur written on his weapon. The attack is being treated as a hate crime.
Erie County District Attorney John Flynn will not confirm the existence of the shooter’s manifesto. He said they believe there was a “racial component” to the attack but won’t say more.

This attack is being investigated by the FBI as a hate crime and as violent extremism.

This dude looks like he would not be willing to leave the cozy confines of his parents basement, much less go out to do a mass shooting. He would be most likely superglued to his gaming chair in front of his computer system from the late 1990's on his poorly assembled Ikea desk with the veneer peeling off, buried waist deep in fast food and candy bar wrappers, Monster energy drink cans, and old plates of food brought down by Mommy.

I know that Tops market, and I know people who shop there. Buffalo is my hometown.

Buffalo's demographics are very segregated. If you look at a map of the specific demographics you can see distinct lines between the populations. North Buffalo and South Buffalo are White, East Buffalo is Black the west side is Hispanic. It's not hard for a shithead like this to figure that out and pick his target.

This ties in with what I thought about him. He can't own his part in his own failures so he had to find a scapegoat. The people he injured and killed are not people, they are a barrier to his success in life. Let's just be thankfull that he didn't possess bomb-making skills!

“Mr. Gendron, you’ve been charged with multiple counts of murder in the first degree,” Buffalo City Court Chief Judge Craig Hannah informed the defendant.
“There should be a copy of the charges in front of you,” the judge continued. “Do you understand that sir?”

“Yes, sir,” Gendron said.

Gendron appeared in court wearing a white paper-style jail smock.
“Do you want me to read these charges to you, or do you understand these charges?” the judge asked.
“I understand my charges,” the defendant said.

When asked if he could afford an attorney, Gendron said “no.”

An attorney who appeared along with the defendant said he would accept an appointment as defense counsel. That defense attorney, Brian Parker, entered a not guilty plea on behalf of his client and waived a formal reading of court papers.

A prosecutor said he was prepared to swiftly present the case to a grand jury.

I am pissed off that the tax payers have to pay for this racist piece of shit.

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn released a mugshot of apparent Buffalo, New York grocery store shooter Payton S. Gendron on Sunday morning.
In a five-minute video posted to YouTube Sunday morning, Flynn reminded people that the shooter must be presumed “innocent until proven guilty” in a court of law and that his job was to ensure that court proceedings are conducted according to standard legal norms.

“These are just allegations,” Flynn said with reference to Gendron. “But that is not gonna stop me from speaking out and letting this community know how outraged I am.”
“I obviously have to temper my outrage,” Flynn continued. “I have to make sure that a fair trial is conducted. I have to make sure that the rights of the defendant are upheld and that the process is done in the impartial manner that we handle all our trials here in Erie County.”

Aaron Salter Jr., 75

Salter is a retired Buffalo police officer who worked as a security guard at the supermarket.

He was fatally shot after confronting accused shooter Payton Gendron inside the store.

Salter's shots failed to penetrate Gendron's armored vest, officials confirmed to CBS News,

After he shot at Gendron, the teen returned fire, killing Salter.

Ruth Whitfield, 86

Whitfield had just visited her husband in a nursing home and decided to stop at the Tops on her way home to get something to eat, WGRZ reported.

She was also the mother of Former Buffalo Fire Commissioner Garnell Whitfield, according to the television station.

Following the shooting, he said during an interview with the Buffalo News: 'My mom was the consummate mom. My mother was a mother to the motherless. She was a blessing to all of us. She loved God and taught us to do the same thing,' he said.

1652667555428.webp

Katherine Massey, 72

She had gone to the supermarket to do her grocery shopping when she was fatally shot.

Her brother was supposed to pick her up after she finished her errands, but arrived to the grisly aftermath of a mass shooting.

Massey was a civil rights and education advocate.

Former Erie County Legislator Betty Jean Grant, who had known Massey for over 20 years, told The Buffalo News that she 'did everything she could to lift up Buffalo's black community.'

Last year, Massey wrote a letter calling for more federal regulation of firearms, citing both urban street violence and mass shootings.

Pearly Young, 77

Young fed needy residents in Buffalo's Central Park neighborhood for 25 years.

Young, originally from Alabama, moved to New York as a young adult and married a pastor.

She had gone to lunch with her sister-in-law on Saturday and was dropped off at the grocer afterwards. Her son was expected to pick her up, but when he arrived at the store, all was in chaos.

1652667653538.webp

Celestine Chaney, 65

Chaney was a breast cancer survivor, was at the supermarket with her older sister, JoAnn Daniels, because she wanted to buy strawberries for shortcake.

The loving mother and grandmother-of-six was also picking up some shrimp for her husband, Raymond.

Daniels told The Buffalo Times she never saw Gendron, but heard the sounds of his assault rifle.

She and Chaney were trying to flee when the 65-year-old was shot.

'She fell and I thought she had got up and was behind me, but she wasn't behind me,' Daniels recalled.

1652667749934.webp

Roberta Drury, 32

Drury was at the store to buy groceries for dinner when the shooting began.

She had moved to Buffalo from the Syracuse, New York, area to be with her older brother after his bone marrow transplant, her sister, Amanda Drury, told Reuters.

Drury helped him with his bar, The Dalmatia, and with his family.

'She was vibrant and outgoing, could talk to anyone,' Amanda said.

Heyward Patterson, 68

He often give people rides to and from the supermarket and would help them carry their groceries. This role earned him the nickname 'Jitney.'

He was also a church deacon and would welcome parishioners and escort them to their seats.

'He would give the shirt off his back,' his wife, Tirzah Patterson, told The Buffalo News. 'That’s who he is. He wouldn’t hurt anybody. Whatever he had, he’d give it to you.'

From Conklin NY, where 1 in 5000 is a mass murderer.
Not bad for a podunk, butt hump, hicksburg out in nowhere.
Quite the shittard.

Gendron published a 180-page hate manifesto (translation: word vomit) and had threatened to shoot up a school but wasn't on anyone's radar. If he had put a picture of boobs out there it would have been taken down immediately and he would have gotten no end of finger wagging.

And where did an 18-year old get all these weapons and gear??

The average age of the victims that Sugar listed above is 67.8, was he shooting old folks on purpose because they are slower and easier to hit?

He needs to be put into a maze lined with people holding Uzis, let him run for his life like he made all those old people run, then knee cap him and kill him gradually. Damn him!

A Tops supermarket employee who survived the Buffalo, New York, mass shooting on Saturday alleged that a 911 dispatcher hung up on her while she was trying to get help, according to local reports.
The dispatcher has been placed on administrative leave "pending a disciplinary hearing" that is expected to happen during the week of May 30, when "termination will be sought," Erie County office of the Executive press secretary Peter Anderson told Fox News Digital.
An internal investigation into the incident began the day after the shooting on May 15, and the individual was placed on administrative leave on May 16, Anderson said.

A 911 dispatcher has been placed on leave and may lose her job after allegedly hanging up on an supermarket employee hiding during this weekend’s shooting rampage in Buffalo, New York.

“Termination will be sought” for the dispatcher at a disciplinary hearing later this month, said Peter Anderson, spokesperson for the executive of Erie County, in an email to The Associated Press on Wednesday.
[....]
Anderson said it’s unclear who hung up on whom.

A message was left with the union that represents Buffalo’s 911 dispatchers.

Avowed white supremacist Payton Gendron appeared in court Thursday in front of the relatives of some of the 10 people he is charged with slaughtering in a Buffalo supermarket — getting heckled as a “coward” as he was led out in shackles.

The 18-year-old was surrounded by a mass of deputies as he was brought into the Buffalo city court in an orange jumpsuit with his legs chained up.
“Payton, you’re a coward!” a woman shouted from the gallery where loved ones of some of the 10 killed in Saturday’s shooting got to see the teen suspect in person for the first time.

Gendron did not react and remained silent throughout the hearing that lasted mere minutes.
Judge Craig Hannah remanded him to custody after a grand jury indicted him on a first-degree murder charge, with the next hearing set for June 9.

Authorities — including the FBI — continue to investigate the possibility of adding hate crime and terrorism charges.
A court officer confirmed to The Post that they had “beefed up” security as a mass of local, national and international media arrived.

Reporters were taken to a basement courtroom for extra screening, with their belongings also taken to a separate room to be sniffed by a K9 before the scribes were allowed into Gendron’s hearing.
The AR-15-style weapon used was covered in deranged racist scrawlings — including the N-word on the scope.

All but two of the 13 people shot were black — and the footage showed the shooter apologizing to one of the white people who came into view.

It later emerged that Gendron had meticulously detailed his twisted race-hate views in a diary, showing he was radicalized during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic and had planned attacks months beforehand.

This was terrorism and a hate crime, he needs to be charged accordingly.

So much hate and vitriol for someone that has only lived 18 years. He has not even formed "his own opinions" just sucked up the bile and drivel of others. I am appalled & shocked that anyone can still think this way! NO ONE HAS TAKEN ANYTHING FROM YOU! NO ONE HAS STOPPED YOUR POSSIBLE PROGRESS! NO ONE HAS BROUGHT ANY HARM TO YOU THAT WOULD JUSTIFY THIS LEVEL OF ACTION!
That is NO ONE BUT YOU!
We are not colors, we are humans, we all have dreams and asperations, we all have lives that we live. We and we alone are responsible for our progress, our happiness, reaching our goals. You cannot lay blame on anyone or you risk building hate for those you feel have wronged you, those you CHOSE to blame for your inability to survive in the world we currently live in, If you feel any particular persons are the cause of change you are unhappy with....then look to yourself to correct this IN YOUR LIFE!
I did not get my degree, was this an entire populations fault, was it because of my ethnicity, was I the wrong color, the wrong sex, the wrong sexual orientation, the wrong religion? While any of those could be a cause and I could be the person that says I would have a degree but because of XYZ I don't! I hate XYZ! They don't deserve to live! It is all their fault, they have caused my whole life to be awful!
Nope, I have to take a few minutes and ask MYSELF what happened, Kids, Marriage, career choices, my life.
These are reasons I never finished my degree, any of one million other things may have played a part, but those things were not why I did some thing, I personally made choices, the end.
These little jackasses need to stop looking outside for "WHY AM I A FAILURE". YOU HAVE FAILED because you cannot or refuse to have an original THOUGHT !

Sorry for the rant...
