Jacksonville, FL - A man with a compromised immune system had 150 live bugs extracted from inside his nose and sinuses earlier this month. The patient experienced severe swelling and nosebleeds before seeking medical attention at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital.

Dr. David Carlson, the attending ENT, discovered live bugs feeding on the patient's nasal and sinus tissues, posing a serious risk to his health.

"They were right up against his skull base, right under the brain," said Dr. Carlson.

The larvae, which have not yet been identified, were of various stages of development and different sizes -- some as large as the end of a pinky finger. An attempt to suck out the bugs was unsuccessful as it clogged up the machine. The doctor resorted to using various tools to remove the bugs, some of which were not just lying around.

"There were certain larvae inside the nose that were scurrying around and looking for places to feed and others that had burrowed into tissue," said Dr. Carlson

The unidentified man is expected to make a full recovery after being given anti-parasitic medicine as well as an anti-parasitic rinse to clean his nose. The man states that while he isn't exactly sure how this happened he did admit to not being too sanitary when it came to his handling of dead fish.

Thank you for the new material to my neverending list of nightmares

Did you know, that there's no actual phobia of friable products?
Am I the only person who looks at muesli or an instant soup, and think something is moving inside?
I may have to finish my psychology degree, just to make documenting it my master's dissertation

When I was a kid, my grandparents practically lived on the river, they went fishing and camping every weekend they could manage it. So I grew up eating fresh caught fish, mainly catfish, but whatever else is edible in the water in Georgia. But I kinda went off fish several years ago when I read about all the parasites that fish carry. So now I will eat processed fish, like fish sticks, but fresh caught, nope.

I am an almost OCD hand washer, so I can't imagine not washing my hands after handling something gross, like fish,or really any kinda meat. Also I can't imagine picking my nose while handling food. Just really grosses me out.
