When a police officer tried to stop a 16-year-old on her way to carry out a suicide pact with her friend, she intentionally rammed her car into another vehicle at 100mph, killing two victims before ran off, court documents state.

Marilee Patricia Gardner was charged as an adult facing two counts of murder for the deaths of Maddison Haan, 20, and Tyler Christianson, 19, after she crashed into their vehicle in Roy, Utah.

Haan was killed instantaneously at 1.10am on Thursday, while Christianson later died at McKay-Dee Hospital after family members decided to take him off life support.

Gardner was on her way to pick up an unnamed 17-year-old so they could buy drugs, take them and crash her mother's car with both of them inside, charging documents cited by KSL reveal.
Gardner appeared at the 2nd District Court in Ogden on Friday and faces additional charges for not stopping at the command of an officer and failing to remain at the scene of an accident involving death.

The 16-year-old 'attempted to disable her parents' home alarm, escaped their home and stole their vehicle with the intent of killing herself and a friend in a suicide pact,' the charging document states.

Gardner was on her way to picking up a friend to carry out the double suicide when a police officer noticed she was dragging a plastic garbage can under the Chevrolet Tahoe.

When the officer tried to pull her over, Gardner accelerated and tried to commit suicide by crashing into the back of a Hyundai with Haan and Christianson inside, according to the documents

Whaaaat the fuck?! What the hell kind of vehicle was SHE driving to do that kind of damage (and kill the people who were rear-ended), but still be in good enough condition herself to be able to get out and flee the police???

Well that explains that. Thank you, I totally missed it/forgot about it the first time I read the article, although it's there. Then when I saw the pictures posted later of the victims' car I was absolutely stunned.

Tahoes are giant, heavy trucks though. What an ill-planned suicide attempt all the way around.

Rather than just OD'ing as others suggested, she planned to take out herself, her friend, some innocent people with the misfortune of being on the road at the time, AND fuck her Mom out of transportation.

And insurance won't cover intentional acts so the financial impact (no car, possibly owing payments still, liability for the property damages and injuries to others) would have been horrific. All that to deal with on top of the violent loss of your dumbass kid.

Its hard looking at the pics of the cars the victims were in. Its sickening that two young people with their whole lives ahead of them died...while she survived with no injuries. I'm glad she was charged as an adult and that she will probably spend the rest of her life in prison. Now she really has something to be depressed about.

I wonder . . . psychopath much?

Well, someone has not only destroyed her own self entitled pathetic life, but destroyed the lives of her victims and ruined the lives of their loved ones.

She'll have a nice long life rotting in a prison some where, bitterly regretting this. I'd prefer she was given what she so badly wants, and hit with the death penalty but I can't see how they can issue that on a 16yr old.

I find I have utterly zero compassion or empathy for her. I want her to live a long, long life. And I want every single second of that life of hers, to be spent in a hellhole of a prison, in utter misery.

She's so young. Young enough to clearly not have thought through the consequences. But old enough to know better. Definitely old enough to have known better.

She isn't worth rehabilitating. She isn't worth anything other than a dank, dark prison cell, without companionship, without empathy, without kindness.

Like fuck it is...it should be private though.

It should be private though.

I completely agree.

They won't sentence her to death or to life without parole. Either sentence is Cruel And Unusual Punishment when applied to a convict who was under the age of majority when the crime was committed.

Odds are it'll be years before she gets shoes with laces in them as well.

Thanks for that :). Shame on the LWOP though. I think that would've been fair.

Thank God it didn't happen in my country. Because she's 16, some asshole bleeding heart Judge would release her at 18 and let her just go about life, no worries.

Ogden • A 16-year-old Utah girl — charged as an adult with murder for allegedly crashing into a car on purpose and killing its two occupants — made her first court appearance Wednesday.

Marilee Patricia Gardner is charged in Ogden's 2nd District Court with two counts of first-degree felony murder and two third-degree felonies for failure to stop at the command of police and leaving the scene of a fatal accident. Killed in the crash early last Thursday morning were 20-year-old Maddison Haan, of West Point, and 19-year-old Tyler Christianson, of Ogden.

Gardner, who is being held at a juvenile detention facility without bail, was led into court handcuffed Wednesday, her wavy brown hair disheveled. The girl stared forward as a court clerk read the charges against her, and as 2nd District Judge Brent West told her that the maximum penalty for the crime is a 15-years-to-life prison term.
She is expected in court again on July 27, where she will decide whether she wants a preliminary hearing in the case.

After the hearing, defense attorney Walter Bugden declined to comment to news reporters other than to say that his client is "very frightened."

Gardner is accused of driving about 100 mph in a 45 mph zone just after midnight Thursday when she rear-ended a sedan with her SUV, sending the car into a traffic signal pole near 6000 South and 3500 West. Haan, who was driving the car, died at the scene, according to charging documents. Christianson was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

After the crash, at about 12:10 a.m., Gardner ran to a nearby grocery store, called her father and "told him she was just in a car crash in Roy City and she might have hurt someone," charges state.

After she was arrested, Gardner allegedly told officers the crash was an attempt to kill herself.

The girl also told police that she was heading to a Roy grocery store to meet a 17-year-old friend so they could take drugs and crash the car as part of a "suicide pact," according to charges.

Just before the fatal crash, police had tried to pull over the girl as she dragged a trash can behind the SUV. But when she did not stop, officers called off the chase due to safety concerns.

The 16-year-old had stolen her parents' SUV earlier in the evening, according to charges, after she tried to disable her parent's home alarm and left their home. Gardner has a history of being suicidal, according to charging documents, and had been hospitalized for treatment recently.

The Salt Lake Tribune does not typically identify juvenile suspects, unless they are charged in adult court, as Gardner has been.
Branden Miles, the chief criminal deputy attorney for the Weber County Attorney's Office, said his office had no choice but to file the case in adult court because of the defendant's age and the severity of the charges.

He said murder charges were more appropriate than automobile homicide or any lesser crimes because Gardner allegedly caused the crash on purpose.

"This case has more evidence than just a simple accident," Miles said. "There is an element of intent here that raises the stakes of the charges."

I have a feeling she may have been using suicide as a threat whenever her parents attempted to rein her in.

Oh, fuck you, you entitled little twat. Spare me.

Pathetic, entitled, dramatic, self absorbed, homicidal bit of work isn't she. My guess would be that her parental units have been walking on eggshells around their little miss for some time now. My heart is aching for those who loved and will long morn Maddison and Tyler of the bright, youthful and shining faces.

The sorrowing must be great as loved ones try to take in that both family trees are now minus 1. <3

Malicious twat isn't she? :shifty:

Twat. It's a fantastic word that really paints an accurate picture regarding just how you feel abt someone, doesn't it? *sigh* that's why I love it like I do. there is such a large number of girl twats and boy twats on the demon, I get to use it ALL THE TIME! :D
