A man clearing out his recently dead mother's apartment in New York City discovered a decomposing body stuffed into a freezer in her living room.

The corpse is believed to be around ten to fifteen years old with investigators unable to tell if it was a man or woman, the building superintendent said.

Visiting his mother's apartment on Broadway, near West 150th Street, in Harlem, to close up her affairs at around 9am on Thursday, the son opened up the freezer.

Asmir Basim, super of the building, told New York Daily News: 'He opened the freezer and started screaming. He says the body appeared to be a woman, very decayed.'

The stand alone freezer had been duct taped shut and was in the living room.

A police source told The New York Post: '[We] can't tell if it's a man or a woman or black or white.'

Building staff say police are investigating whether the body could be the mother of the deceased, reports New York Daily News.

Mr Basim told the publication that the woman had never granted him access to work in her apartment but 'seemed like a lovely lady'.

You know, if there's a mysterious out of place freezer sitting somewhere DUCT TAPED SHUT, how do you not know better than to just jump right in to opening it?

It's like all these poor souls just careen blindly through life, having never read any DD-worthy news articles.

Name me one fucking thing that makes sense to be in a duct taped shit freezer that isn't terrible news. Lol.

CAn you imagine the thousands of conversations that they had about that duct taped freezer in the living room?

Come on Ma, let me take that thang to the dump, it looks shity sitting here all duct taped in the middle of the living room, NO son, that there freezer was your grandma's and I can't make myself throw it away. But MA........ I said NO!

I know that I would be the first one in line to just see what was in that freezer! o_O

They did an episode of SVU on something like this recently. Judd Hirsch and Wallace Shawn were brothers who kept their dead mom in a freezer in their apartment.

I'm gonna follow this cuz I wanna know who it was!
