A transgender person was given a death sentence by a Mumbai court for the brutal rape and murder of a three-month-old female child.

The accused had asked for a saree, Rs 1,100 and a coconut as a ''vadhai'' (gift) after the child's birth.

"The court held that his motive was to create terror in the neighbourhood so that no one would dare refuse to offer gifts to him."

Sounds like someone from Hijra caste. It's basically an artificial caste, you can't be born into it, only join it. It's an ancient practice and considered a "third gender." They've existed for well over a thousand years. There are some scam artist that will inculcate into the caste and try to shake down people for vadhai after forcing their "blessing" on the family. (usually a ritual that includes specific chants and dancing)

Regardless of history and culture, I agree with India on the punishment. I am surprised the person even made it to trial and wasn't killed outright by the family. Hijra are killed for simply pissing people off and usually no one cares.

Just imagining it makes me all warm and heppy inside. I don't care about the ones doing drugs, as long as they aren't neglecting/abusing children. However, kiddie didlers and murderers can just get a quick bullet to the head and be done with it.
