GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) – Two people have been arrested after a home invasion and stabbing in Golden. The victims are middle school teachers and investigators say it seems the criminals targeted the wrong house.

The crime happened on Monday night at a married couple’s home near 19th Street and Washington Avenue.

Police said the incident started when the couple heard a knock at the door about 9 p.m. Monday. The husband opened the door and three men forced their way in.

The husband tried to fight off one of the suspects and was able to grab a knife from the kitchen and stabbed one of the suspects. While fighting back, he was stabbed and critically hurt.

The husband suffered stab wounds to his kidney. He also suffered a punctured lung and several other lacerations. Fortunately, he is expected to survive.

The wife was able to escape from the home and ran to a neighbor’s house where she called 911.

One of the suspects also has critical injuries, according to police.

Both the victim and suspect were rushed to the hospital.

Two children were asleep in the basement during the attack. They were not injured and are staying with their grandmother.

Police have arrested two suspects, a 21-year-old male and a 17-year-old juvenile male. Officers continue to search for at least one more suspect as well as a possible fourth suspect, a female believed to have driven the getaway car. Officers conducted an extensive overnight search that included K9s.

Two knives were recovered at the scene, one brought in by the suspects and the other possibly already in the home.

One neighbor told CBS4 he was shocked to hear about the crime happening on his street.

“This neighborhood is actually pretty safe. Nothing of this caliber has ever happened,” said Daniel Zarrini.

The names of the suspects and victims haven’t been released. Police told CBS4 that investigators haven’t identified which house was the intended target but the suspects were looking for $10,000 in cash and drugs.

Both the husband and wife teach at Bell Middle School. There were counselors at the school on Tuesday to help students and staff.

I know the kids were sleeping, and we assume that's good...but i wonder how hard its going to be for them to process and recover anyway...home is supposed to be a safe place.

Little fukwads.
A shame the one the teacher cut didn't stiff.
They should have driven him to hospital the scenic route...by way of Boulder.

It always gets me when dinguses like these already have a record.
It shows me how utterly unteachable and stupid some people truly are.
They don't want to learn, be part of society or contribute in a positive meaningful way.
All they want is chaos and anarchy.
I say harvest whatever usable organs and tissues they have and move on.
Society needs them gone.

GOLDEN, Colo. - The father stabbed in a wrong home invasion in Golden is speaking out for the first time since the attack two-and-a-half weeks ago, and thanks the community for an outpouring of support.

"Those acts of generosity have shown us that light will truly conquer dark," said Jesse Swift, the home invasion survivor. "Thank you from the bottom of our hearts."

The attack happened back on May 16.

Swift was stabbed when three suspects entered his home looking for cash and drugs. But, police have said the suspects got the wrong house.

On Thursday night, Swift and his wife, who was strong-armed by the suspects during the attack while their two children were in the basement, spoke at a community meeting about the need to move past this quickly.

"And make sure our kids have support and space, so that they can have a great and fun summer, too," said Jessica Swift.

Three of the four suspects are in jailand facing charges ranging from attempted murder to aggravated robbery.

A fourth suspect, Cody Jones, is still on the run.
Police say they went door-to-door in the days following the attack looking for the drug house in question, but that search turned up very little.

"We're just going to take the next few weeks, we’re kind of trying to just catch our breath and regroup," said Jessica Swift. "We know we’re going to be okay. We’re going to recover. We are going to trump through this."

I don't even answer my door to people i know. I hate being bothered.

It's so sad and tragic that none of the suspects died. Sickens me.

One of four people who seriously injured a school teacher in a Golden home invasion, after they’d entered the wrong home, was sentenced Friday to 42 years in prison.

Caleb Williams, 21, was sentenced in Jefferson County District Court on multiple charges after pleading guilty in January.

Williams was sentenced to 23 years for first-degree assault, 13 years for first-degree burglary, and six years for attempted aggravated robbery, according to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. The sentences are to be served consecutively.

Cody Jones, 20, pleaded guilty in December. He was sentenced in February to 45 years in prison.

Tyler Gorringe, 18, pleaded guilty on Dec. 15 to first-degree assault, first-degree burglary and attempted robbery. He was 17 at the time of the attack, but was charged as an adult.

The fourth co-defendant, 19-year-old Julia Johnson, pleaded guilty Jan. 3 to being an accessory to burglary. Authorities say she was driving a car used by the suspects the night of the May 16 attack.

Johnson is scheduled to be sentenced on March 16 and Gorringe on April 28.

Jesse Swift, a middle school teacher, was stabbed and severely injured in the incident. His wife Jessica, also a school teacher, and their two small children were home when the home invasion occurred. Jessica phoned 911 for help. She and the children were not harmed.

Got to say that's a pretty badass teacher, unarmed and faced with three marauding thugs grabs the nearest stabby thing and starts lashing out wildly, injuring one of them quite effectively. If he was high school I'd understand it but middle schoolers for the most part are only just starting to get difficult so probably not a skill he honed in the classroom.
