The Duncan Police Department said a child has been charged and another is under investigation after they were caught on surveillance video killing a kitten at Duncan Village Apartments.
Investigator Holden Parker said the kitten was taken from a box left outside a neighbor’s front door. Surveillance video documented the children throwing the kitten, slamming it on the ground, then discarding it in a dumpster.
Police were notified of the incident by Spartanburg County Animal Control on April 21.
“Seeing the video, it’s hard to put into words,” Parker said. “It was not easy to watch being an animal person. Certainly not what I wanted to see, but unfortunately, that’s our responsibility and something we have to do.”
Parker described the case as one of the most disturbing animal cruelty investigations the department has seen.
“Working over the years many violent cases I will say I had that sick feeling that I had not felt in a lot of serious cases,” Parker said. “It was very disturbing to me. I felt physically repulsed by it.”

Police have identified the children and said the parents were contacted and informed of what the department was investigating.
After reviewing the video and speaking with all parties, officials said the decision was made to charge the older juvenile. They were issued a juvenile summons for animal cruelty.
If I was the owner of the kitten I would pay kids in the same age range as these two monsters to beat their asses everyday for the foreseeable future.
