Crawford County Judge Mark Stevens sentenced 19-year-old Casey A. Shay-Yoder this morning to 25 months to 10 years in prison for pleading guilty in December to involuntary manslaughter in the March 2009 suffocation death of 4-month-old Aiden J. Brown.


Shay-Yoder was given credit for 36 days that she spent in the Crawford County Correctional Facility after her arrest in late June.

Shay-Yoder said nothing in court, but wiped away tears as Stevens explained his reasons for sentencing her in the aggravated range on the involuntary manslaughter charge. They included Brown's age and the impact that Brown's death had on family members and others.

There's a little Amish town in Kansas called Yoder. My mom grew up in a town just down the road, and anytime we visit family we pass through. There's a general store type place that sells all sorts of stuff made by Amish families in the area, they have bitchin' sticky buns. (Last time I was there I bought a Yoder, KS shotglass for a friend. It said "Amish Country" and had the little horse & buggy on it, awesome.) I guess a lot of people in the town were named Yoder too, some of them went to school with my mom back in the 50s.

the baby is in a much better place....I feel so so sad for his twin sister.....she will always have a sense of loss for that twin bond.....how anyone can stand behind and support the asinine mom is beyond me.....I know in my heart of hearts that if my daughter killed her kid I would be the first and loudest one against her....seems harsh but thats the price that needs to be paid (since law justice almost always fails), complete desolation and abandonment from those you love.
