I'll make this short and simple. It's the small businesses that are hurting, because they can't pay as much, so they can't lure prospective employees away from the fairly cushy unemployment benefits that may be as high as $700 per week (close to $17/hr). When they do manage to reel in an applicant, it's because the applicant's unemployment benefits are about to run out. It's a bit of a Catch-22 situation. With some schools still closed to in-person learning, parents have no choice except to have one parents stay home with the kids.
