I live a couple of miles from the original Bunny Ranch. Hof was not loved. It wasn't his profession, it was his obnoxious behavior.
ETA: Hof would arrive at a nice restaurant with 4 of his girls, big nasty cigar, and loud. He was mobbish, but I doubt he was connected.
