I am 26 years old, and I flunked out of Stony Brook University at the end of 2021, thus ruining the opportunity I had to build a good future for myself. I finally did manage to get an undergraduate degree at the end of 2024, but it's a bachelor's in history from SUNY Empire State University, which doesn't carry nearly as much weight as a degree from SBU would. On top of that, I don't have any work experience besides doing delivery driving for UberEats and Grubhub. Things seem to be utterly hopeless for me at this point. My father has said that my job prospects are now just as dismal as an ex-convict's. Is this really true? Is there really nothing I can do now to escape a life of poverty and shitty jobs?

Well, you're not actually a convicted felon, right? And you do in fact have a university degree, right?

So no, I would say your chances are not on par with an ex-convict's. Do you have any idea how many ex-convicts don't even have a high school diploma? About 25%. Only about 4% have a bachelor's degree or higher.

But what are you doing to actually find work? An ex-convict who's actively, energetically pursuing employment has better chances of finding it than a college graduate who isn't.

I dropped out of college and ended up getting a bachelor in general studies from a state 4 year school. Ended up doing factory work, furniture delivery/sales, and dishwashing for a bit then stumbled into being a medical courier and doing healthcare logistics stuff. I've worked everything from grocery store pharmacy delivery, small town hospitals, hospitals in metros of over 200k people, and Fortune 500 companies.
