Austin Police May Have Linked Suspected Serial Killer Raul Meza Jr. To A 2018 Cold Case

Austin police may have linked a 2018 cold case to suspected serial killer Raul Meza Jr.

Meza was arrested in May 2023 in connection with the murder of Jesse Fraga in Pflugerville in 2023 and in connection with Gloria Lofton's death in Austin in 2019.

According to a search warrant filed on Jan. 2, 2024, the Austin Police Department (APD) is looking to obtain Meza's Google data for the time period of Nov. 1, 2016, through May 29, 2023.

The search warrant states that police are requesting access to the data because an APD detective has identified a cold case from 2018 that matches Meza's modus operandi. Meza has also claimed to have shot two people in San Antonio from the end of 2018 to the beginning of 2019, and that information is still under investigation, according to the warrant.


The search warrant states that police believe, "Meza committed additional sexual assaults and murders after his supervised release ended in 2016" and they believe the data associated with his Google account will assist investigators in corroborating him as a suspect in the murders of Lofton and Fraga, the San Antonio shooting and additional cold cases.

In August 2023, a Travis County grand jury indicted Meza for one count of capital murder and another count of murder in connection with Lofton's death, plus an indictment for murder and another for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in connection with Fraga's death.

Meza was previously convicted of the murder of 8-year-old Kendra Page in 1982. Authorities have said he could be linked to up to 10 cold cases.
