An Aurora man has been charged with burning his 5-year-old son's hands with hot water after the boy refused to punch his older brother who suffers from a brain tumor.

Ross Hunt, 30, is charged with three counts of aggravated battery of a child under the age of 13; three counts of domestic battery of a child; and two counts of endangering the life, health or safety of a child.

Bail was set at $50,000.

According to an Aurora Police Department report the two boys had been placed with their father Dec. 26, 2019, by a Will County court.

Police learned the older son, then 6, has a brain tumor that required ongoing treatment, that he has a shunt in his brain, and that he has to use a walker or other support to walk. He also vomits frequently when eating certain foods, the report stated.

The younger boy said Hunt squeezed the older boy's shoulders when he vomited and asked him why he can't stop. The younger boy said he was then asked to punch his brother in the head. When he refused, Hunt took the boy to a bathroom and held his hands under hot water, according to the police report.

The younger boy told police he and his brother were "too scared to tell the truth" when "a lady" asked them what happened, because she asked them in front of Hunt. Police say they confirmed with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and the boys' guardian ad litem the questioning had happened with Hunt present or nearby.

Hunt's attorney, Miriam Szatrowski, told Grady the two boys are now in foster care. Grady granted Szatrowski's request that Hunt be allowed to continue visiting his sons with DCFS supervision, as has been ordered by a Will County judge. The attorney told Grady the visits have "gone well" and Hunt is not a danger to his children.

Idiots. They must have gotten their CPS licenses out of a cracker jack box. hm do they even get licenses????

I believe the first half of that, and it's from shithead Grady's perspective.

Fucker should go break his fragile egg head on something, and be done with this world.

I never thought I would see an article where the father said to his own child, "You better punch your brother in the head right now, or I will mess you up real good!"

Also, how is that glib, pale, male-patterned formation in the picture a 30-year-old dude? This world has so many mysteries...

He is not a danger because the visits are supervised.

If the judge signs off on unsupervised overnight/weekend visits will they be?

The boys love their father and more than likely want to be reunited with him so they may not report future abuse.

Until the father is able to demonstrate that he can cope with his special needs son if visits have to occur they should remain supervised.

Too often we read about children who abuse a sibling at the behest of a parental/caregiver - I hope the sibling who stood up and protected his brother has been told how amazing he is.

Sad, sad day when a freaking 5 year old has more common sense than the neanderthal in charge. He should NEVER get access to those kids, EVER. He tried to force a young child to hurt an already very sick child!! NO! That is never ok and should be grounds to terminate its parental rights.

Ross Hunt, 35, was sentenced on May 2, 2025, to two years of conditional discharge after being convicted of battery against his children.
Judge D.J. Tegeler ordered a conditional discharge rather than prison time.
Tegeler noted that Hunt had complied with all court-ordered improvements while out on bond, including:
  • Completing domestic violence and anger management counseling.
  • Maintaining sobriety from drugs and alcohol.
One of Hunt's sons passed away in 2022 (unrelated to the battery charges), and the surviving son expressed love for his father while in foster care. The judge stated his goal was to eventually reunify the family.

The sentencing followed a 2020 arrest where Aurora police charged Hunt with multiple felony counts of aggravated battery and misdemeanor domestic battery.

Investigators alleged that Hunt:

Battered his special-needs son after the child vomited.
Ordered his younger son to hit his brother.
Held parts of a child's body under hot water, causing burns, after they refused to comply with his instructions.
At the time of the incidents, prosecutors cited statements from the older boy describing Hunt as the "Big Bad Wolf" in their home.

The son that was abused was undergoing treatment for a brain tumor at the time of the abuse and was using a walker.

Fuck no! He should not be reunited with the younger child.

Since the young child loves his father maybe supervised visits - because I fear in the future the child would just stay silent about any abuse so they are not removed from the father's care.

Maybe the older child would have passed away, but his final time on earth should not have been filled with pain and fear from his own father.

Oh Dear!! NO, NO!! Allow the supervised visit, make sure the father pays the child’s expenses! This man scolded a child with cancer for vomiting!!?? Shows his complete disregard for his son, what else did he do that was not listed?? Perhaps when the child is older and able to defend himself!
