An infant in Tennessee died after their foster grandmother reportedly left them in a hot car.
The 7-month-old child, who has not been identified, was found unresponsive in the car around 4 p.m. Wednesday outside a library in Monterey. In a press release, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures, but authorities believe the baby had been in the car for hours with the windows sealed and the engine off.

WKRN reports that the child's foster grandmother was supposed to take the child to day care that day. When the baby didn't arrive, day care staff reached out to the infant's foster mother, who reached out to the grandmother. The grandmother then reportedly realized she hadn't taken the baby to day care before going to the library.

There will probably be no charges against the woman who left the child in the car and a large settlement for the child's biological family.

Rest in peace little Pud .... sorry you were let down.

A Tennessee woman is behind bars after she left an infant to die in a hot car for hours, Volunteer State law enforcement says.
Linda Stevens, 69, stands accused of criminally negligent homicide, the Putnam County District Attorney's Office announced this week.

In a press release, prosecutors alleged the defendant "did unlawfully and negligently kill" 7-month-old Gabrielle Alonzo.
"She left the child secured in her locked car from 8:00 am until approximately 4:00 pm. when she received a telephone call from a family member asking about the child's whereabouts," the DA's office said.

The defendant has been described as the child's foster grandmother.

Farris said the baby's foster mother sent him along with Stevens so he could be dropped off at day care, according to WKRN. When the child never arrived, however, the day care called the foster mother who then reached out to the defendant. That's when the horrific realization hit.

I do not understand at all how this happens. Do they not talk to or interact with the baby at all while they are in the car? Or is it just an impersonal task like throwing luggage in the trunk and driving away?

I first met Grandmonkey when she was 18 months old, I had a 2 door Blazer, it was almost impossible to get her into a car seat, she thought it was funny to get up and run over to the either side of the car {where I can't reach her cause I"m 5ft2], while I'm trying to strap her in. But still we talked and sang songs while we were in the car. I am very forgetful, I lose keys and scissors and other small things daily, but I have never left her in a car by herself, for any reason. I don't get it.
