YONKERS - A young pit bull was choked by his owner and thrown down two flights of stairs in a Yonkers apartment building, according to law enforcement.
The dog's owner, 71-year-old Frank Gallo Sr., was charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty.
The dog, Riley, was rushed to a local veterinary hospital after Yonkers police and the Humane Law Enforcement made the arrest.
“By some miracle, Riley didn’t sustain any serious injuries but this is still a serious and horrific act of animal cruelty,” Shannon Laukhuf, executive director of the SPCA of Westchester, said in a statement. “We’re very thankful to those individuals who reported the incident so that our officers could respond quickly to ensure Riley’s safety and well-being.”
Riley is in the care of a Yonkers animal shelter.
