In federal court in Central Islip, David Ibarra was arraigned on an indictment charging him with sexual exploitation of a child, coercion, and enticement. Ibarra, an active-duty senior airman in the United States Air Force, was initially charged by complaint in February 2025 and ordered detained in Anchorage, Alaska, before his transfer to the Eastern District of New York. Today’s proceeding was held before United States District Court Judge Joanna Seybert who ordered the defendant detained pending trial.
“As alleged, the defendant, a 31-year-old man posing as a 13-year-old boy, manipulated a vulnerable child into producing and sending him sexually explicit images and videos of herself via text message in exchange for money,” stated United States Attorney Durham. “My Office will continue its relentless pursuit of sexual predators who target children and work to secure lengthy prison sentences in these cases to protect our community and children from such conduct.”

“As alleged in the indictment, this individual targeted and then repeatedly coerced a child into sending him sexually explicit photos and videos of herself—produced at his specific direction—in exchange for money,” stated FBI Acting Assistant Director in Charge Backschies. “The FBI is committed to finding and arresting the monsters who prey on vulnerable children, and we will continue to work with our partners to ensure these predators are off the streets and behind bars where they can no longer pose a danger to our communities.”
As set forth in court filings, law enforcement identified Ibarra from cell phone records obtained for an individual who was communicating, via text message, with a 9-year-old girl living in Suffolk County, New York, and soliciting sexually explicit images and videos from her in exchange for money. During these communications, Ibarra, who claimed to be a 13-year-old boy named “Dave” living in Texas, repeatedly pressured the victim to send him more images and gave her specific directions as to what sexually explicit poses he wanted her to record (“Can we be a little dirty before we go to sleep? Pls and I’ll send money…”). Ibarra made approximately 17 payments to the victim’s Apple Pay account to induce her to continue producing sexually explicit images for the defendant’s gratification.

Prosecutors say the girl, who lives on Long Island, a suburban region east of New York City, met the man on TikTok in August and he asked her to communicate with him on Roblox, telling her he was a 13-year-old boy living in Texas.

He allegedly got the girl to text him from her phone and eventually directed her to create explicit videos and images, while sending her money via Apple Pay.

Ibarra paid her $191 in a series of 17 transactions, prosecutors allege.
The girl’s mother eventually became aware of the messages. Posing as an older sister, she garnered more information about the sender by texting him from her own phone, and he ultimately sent her a selfie revealing part of his face, according to the indictment.

Investigators used Ibarra’s El Paso, Texas-based phone number and searched his iCloud account to confirm his identity, according to prosecutors.

Under interrogation the 31-year-old allegedly admitted to paying the girl for the images, saying he thought the victim was 12. Prosecutors say he acknowledged coercing other girls into sending explicit images as well, including one in New Jersey.
Ibarra has been “in an unpaid status” since his arrest, Air Force spokesperson Erin Eaton said via email. It is not clear what other military discipline he could face.

And how was saying he thought she was 12 any better than her really being 9!!!!

And yeah he paid her like $11 per transaction, if she had been any older than 9 she would have understood he was shortchanging her.

You might think this is an intelligent person, but his actions here just proves that not only is he a pedo, he is also extremely stupid.

He left one hell of a trail behind! Should make it easy for the courts, especially with the "I thought she was 12" defense.

A lot of parents use cell phones and tablets a default babysitter. There is easy to use software to monitor stuff though. Roblox's chat functions has been utilized by pedos many times before. I'm an android guy, so I don't know a lot about Apple Pay, but 9 is way too young to have electronic access to pay or receive money. At that age she should be limited to an adult-supervised lemonade stand at most.

Apple Pay is basically just a credit card or debit card linked to your iPhone, you can tap the side button and it pops up with your card. It’s easy to pay for simple transactions, even the subway with just a tap. It’s also similar to banking apps like Venmo where you can send and receive payments. A lot of parents will have it for their child so they can see what the kid is spending $ on, deposit their allowance and a lot of businesses are not taking cash anymore.
A 9 year old should not be anywhere near TikTok though! As for Roblox that’s a tough one because kids love it but I think a lot of parents aren’t aware of the chat features. This child is another one who was given access to the world in the palm of her hand, and unfortunately the darkest parts of the world found her.

Ibarra has been “in an unpaid status” since his arrest, Air Force spokesperson Erin Eaton said via email. It is not clear what other military discipline he could face.
Currently, there are six different military discharges:
Honorable
General, Under Honorable Conditions
General, Under Other Than Honorable Conditions.
Entry Level Separation

All four of these are administrative discharges. Then there are the two punitive discharges:
Bad Conduct Dischaarge
Dishonorable Discharge

These last two discharges are given as a result of a court martial conviction. A sentence of a Bad Conduct Discharge or Dishonorable Discharge is tantamount to a felony sentence, plus imprisonment and reduction in rank and loss of pay and allowances are also possibilities.

If he's in an unpaid status, he might have been subjected to an Article 15, Commander's Non-Judicial Punishment. Or it's possible he's been declared AWOL, since there is no military leave status that allows sitting in a civilian jail cell. The minimum he faces is a General, Under Other Than Honorable Conditions discharge. That's an administrative discharge, so all it requires is for the unit commander to sign off on the discharge. If he did any part of this on post, though, he can be tried at court martial

TL;DR: He is in a world of deserved hurt.
