Prosecutors in California say a man is now facing charges in the cold case of a pregnant 16-year-old whose mother reported her missing more than six years ago.
Joshua Martinez, 28, made his first court appearance after being indicted and arrested by U.S. Marshals in connection with the cold case of 16-year-old Victoria Marquina.
“Today marks the beginning of Victoria Marquina’s journey for justice,” Amador County District Attorney Todd Riebe said.

Although a suspect has been charged with Marquina’s murder, investigators say they still need the public’s help. The 16-year-old’s body has never been found, and they hope someone may have information that can help in the search for her remains.
“We want to bring closure to Victoria’s mother, allow her to bury her child and her grandchild,” Freitas said.
Investigators say Marquina was last seen at her place of work in Amador County in October 2019. Days later, she was reported missing at Sutter Creek, and her vehicle was found abandoned near Escalon.

The suspect was indicted on four felony counts, including murder, and faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
