An Inglewood father is under arrest for murder after his baby daughter's body was recovered from the Los Angeles River in Long Beach, police said Tuesday.
Inglewood police were contacted Sunday night about a missing child after a father picked up his two children from their mother in Long Beach and then showed up to his home in Inglewood with only one child.
The suspect's mother contacted police because she was concerned about her 1-year-old granddaughter, Leilani Dream Burley.
Police investigated the missing child and found her body in the Los Angeles River below the Ocean Boulevard Bridge, a location which is close to where the river empties into the bay.
The father, identified as Jayveyon Burley, 22, was arrested for murder and child endangerment and booked into the Inglewood jail.

"My baby always lights up the room with her big beautiful eyes," the child's mother, Lynisha Hull, told NBCLA. "Leilani was only 1 year old. She was full of life, and she was so beautiful and loved."
"They told me they found my baby in the river, that her father dropped her over the bridge in Long Beach," the baby's mother wrote to NBCLA. "All I can imagine right now: was she screaming? Was she afraid? Was she saying 'dada?' Did he do something with his bare hands before he dropped her in the river?"
Hull said Leilani's father has never hurt the kids, and was often over-protective of them.

But Sunday she says he was angry.

She describes the moment she learned the news from police.

"They came to my house, they said, 'bad news, we found your daughter in the river.' In the river!" she said. "He threw her off the bridge in Long Beach."

Oh no she was such a beautiful baby. Why do this? Just don't visit anymore if you don't want them anymore. Why steal the love and joy from so many people?

Once again my heart cries out for the first responders who had to find this little one. You just know it creates a sorrowful mind fog for them and just in time to try to be happy a joyful for their own families Christmas.

Her poor mama! Her heart must be utterly destroyed. I can't even imagine. I really hope she has a good network of support to try to get through this.

I applaud the suspects mother for contacting police, I know it's the right thing to do, but it's also one of the hardest things to do...Fly High Little One.
