A homicide and attempted murder case that’s been cold for over two decades is now being reopened by the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office.
On Sept. 11, 2002, 19-year-old Alicia “Allie” Rose Carver was brutally beaten to death in a New Llano home.
According to the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement officers discovered the gruesome scene in one of the bedrooms of the home. Deputies called it one of the most brutal scenes they had ever witnessed.
Barbara Ivey, 14, who resided at the home, was also nearly beaten to death but survived. Ivey was critically injured and transported to the nearest medical facility where she was treated for significant head injuries, VPSO said.
Carver suffered fatal injuries to her face and skull. Ivey and Carver are believed to have been friends.
Detectives said there was a man in the home in another room who said he slept through the attack.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the man said he was not awakened by anything until his girlfriend, Ivey’s mother, returned home and came into the room screaming his name. Detectives said he cooperated with the investigation.
Craft told 7News he’s been with the case since day one, and believes it’s solvable all these years later.
“What gives us the biggest hope is that with all the enhanced and sophisticated DNA testing that’s now available, I personally keep thinking that either something that’s already been tested or something that will be tested through DNA will give us the break that we’re needing,” Craft said.
“We certainly have several persons of interest that are not yet cleared to, be honest. Some have been, but some have not been cleared. So, certainly, they remain at the forefront of our investigation.”
However, enhanced testing isn’t the only thing that could crack the case, Craft and Jeane both hope someone will come forward with some piece of information that could help bring this case to a close.
