A Sierra Vista man trying to cross the U.S. / Mexico border was taken into custody Saturday on murder charges involving the death of his infant son in 2022.
Kamall Razelle Clark was arrested after a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer at the Douglas Port of Entry was alerted to an outstanding warrant in Clark’s name on four felony counts related to the boy’s death.

CBP contacted the Douglas Police Department, which sent an officer to transport Clark, 27, to the Cochise County jail.
The case began on Feb. 3, 2022, when Sierra Vista police officers and emergency medical responders were dispatched to a local apartment complex for a 3-month-old infant in medical distress. The boy died a few days later.

Court records show Clark was indicted by a county grand jury last month on one count of first degree felony murder stemming from the fact the death occurred during the commission of a felony, namely child abuse.

One count of second degree murder is also contained in the indictment, alleging the child’s death occurred under “circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to human life.”
It appears the 15-month delay between the child’s death and Clark’s indictment was due in part to the extensive medical records which had to be reviewed.

The other two counts contained in the indictment charge Clark with aggravated assault as well as child abuse under intentional circumstances “likely to produce death or serious physical injury.”
