Daniel A. Neal, 30, is charged with murder in connection with the death of his 3-year-old son. Court documents said the mother called 911 just after 7 a.m. on Monday saying her son was not breathing. Neal was questioned by homicide detectives and initially denied any involvement with the boy's death. The man eventually admitted to assaulting the 3-year-old, causing his death.
During a scheduled arraignment on Tuesday morning, the prosecutor claimed Neal became angry at the young child for "making a mess" and threw him to the ground several times. Neal allegedly "forcefully threw him to the ground, head-first, onto the kitchen floor, twice, which caused his death," according to prosecutors. Medics on scene pronounced the child dead at the scene.
According to prosecutors, a post-mortem X-ray revealed a fracture of the occipital bone on the back of the boy's head.
The toddler's two older siblings were placed in the care of Franklin County Children's Services. Neighbors told ABC 6 a family of five lives in the unit, and there have been emergency crews at the apartment before.
