Courtney Gartshore, 27, of Aberdeen, is accused of causing injuries so severe that they led to the death of her daughter, Dahlia Rose, in September 2023 at a home in Peterhead. Prosecutors claim Gartshore was under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time.
During a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow, Gartshore’s lawyer, Murray Macara KC, entered a plea of not guilty on her behalf. Gartshore, also known as Courtney McCready, was excused from attending the hearing.
The charge of culpable homicide alleges that Dahlia Rose was exposed to “sustained heat” on her head and body which was so severe that the child died. In addition to this, Gartshore is accused of wilfully neglecting both Dahlia Rose and another child on the day of the tragedy.
Additional claims made by the prosecution include that Gartshore had consumed excessive amounts of alcohol and was co-sleeping with the baby while intoxicated. The indictment also alleges that the house was in an insanitary condition, littered with dirty nappies, spoiled food and alcohol.
