Bradley Fox, Williams’ attorney, said that she is remorseful and has accepted responsibility for the young girl’s death.

“This is something that Bethoney is going to have to live with for the rest of her life,” Fox said.
In a presentence court filing, Fox said Williams was prescribed opioids during a hospital visit at 19 years old. He added that she became addicted to the medication. She eventually moved on to fentanyl.

He said the addiction caused Williams to neglect the safety of her child.

“I’m not making excuses, but my drug addiction resulted in the death of my beautiful child,” Williams said in a tearful statement to the judge.
“I wish I could bring my child back,” she said. “I would give my own life for hers, in an instant.”
While Williams’ minimum prison term is six years, she could spend as many as nine years behind bars due to a state law that says the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction can extend someone's sentence based on conduct while in prison.
