The incident for which Kamilla Musser, 44, was charged and arrested took place on Jan. 3, 2020, when Musser allegedly injured the child’s arm by throwing them after she found the child watching television with their grandfather at their Tyler home. The affidavit claims Musser attempted to blame the grandfather for the injury.
However, the arrest affidavit also describes a history of the child’s abuse allegedly at the hands of Musser. The alleged abuse was discovered when a teacher noticed marks and injuries on the child’s body, including stripes on the back of their hands, a swollen face and a cut on the neck. The teacher said that the injuries were not consistent with the explanation the child gave of falling down. This incident was reported by the teacher on March 11, 2023 and was investigated three days later by CPS, who made contact with the child’s grandparents. The case worker reported seeing physical abuse marks and scarring “all over” the child’s body.
The child was then forensically interviewed on two separate dates at the Smith County Children’s Advocacy Center, during which they described the abuse that they allegedly endured at the hands of Musser. Incidents described include having their teeth knocked out with a spoon, being taped to their bed, being pinched, hit, clawed and thrown down stairs. The affidavit said the child described being forced to take cold showers, forced to run and exercise and being hit with a belt. Investigators said they believe the child endured so much abuse over such an extended period of time that they were incapable of remembering all of it.
