24-year-old Valessa Matlock faces the charge for the death of her two-month-old son in June 2023.
On June 10, officers responded to an apartment on Getty Terrace where they found the child, who was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Matlock is accused of not following proper guidelines when putting her baby down to sleep the night before. The investigation also found that living conditions of the apartment were inadequate for any of the children that were living there.

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL) -- A woman in Dubuque has been charged with child endangerment in the death of a two-month-old from last summer.
During the investigation, police say Matlock told them she had wrapped the child in a blanket and placed him on the living room couch while she went to bed….she says when she woke the next morning, the child had the blanket over his face and was not breathing. Authorities also stated the living conditions in the apartment were poor.
