Yes, you might get an auto-rickshaw when you order Uber in India. After all, there might only be 3 dozen within spitting range when you step out your door at any time of day or night.

But seriously, I'm all for the safety of everyone, but everybody stares in India. You feel like a movie star... at first.
Then, sigh, you realize you're but one in a billion being stared at that day.

He didn't harm her. Or take her to his cousin's restaurant or tailoring shop, instead of the requested destination, which happens all the time.

He didn't say anything creepy.

I hope he doesn't get prosecuted.

However there was a rape by an Uber driver in India of a passenger in 2014 that shocked the nation, and steps have been taken to prevent that.

Before making ill-informed conclusions that "India is a rape CULTURE" , which it is NOT, please compare this.

One rape in 9 years by an Uber driver in India VS

"Uber released its second US Safety Report, which showed there were 998 sexual assault incidents, including 141 rape reports, in 2020.

In the report, the company said it had received a total of 3,824 reports of the five most severe categories of sexual assault between 2019 and 2020.

The firm's first safety report, which details incidents from 2017 to 2018, found 5,981 reports of sexual assault.
"

Who's got the rape culture?

But I realize factual info is pointless in presenting here. Dark-skinned, different alphabet, non-Christians? Bad.
A few of the worst examples of rape make it to these pages, and many of you decide they are savage animals.

Here's the truth:

But I bet the next thread I see here concerning a rape in India? Some member will say "Of course, it's India"

"The Delhi Police has registered a case against an Uber driver on charges of misbehaving with a woman journalist. The auto driver has been identified and efforts are on to trace and nab the suspect.

On Thursday, the journalist filed a complaint against the auto driver for staring at her inappropriately in the mirroShe levelled allegations of indecent behaviour as well as lascivious staring by him, while she was travelling from NFC to Malviya Nagar on March 1 at about 4.40 pm," the Delhi Police said in a statement, without naming the woman.

The police have registered an FIR under IPC section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and initiated a probe into the incident.

I have to admit, I was one of these 'took em to their tailor cousins" person when I visited Bangkok.

I met this hot, French guy, we drunk and I fucked him, even though he had only 10 toes, some kind of birth defect or something.

Then we went sightseeing, and the taxi driver told us it was the "happy Buddha holiday" and the royal palace is closed, which should be a red flag automatically, since I knew Buddha was never happy before reaching the marihuana state.

The suit was fine at the time, but I put on weight and couldn't fit in the pants for my brother's wedding.
I still blame the taxi driver though.

Reminds me of the case from USA, where a guy saved a little girl from running in front of the car and was registered as a sex offender

every woman ive met from India has been very vocal about how rapey Indian men are. I started hearing about it back in 08 I think they would greatly disagree with you about india not having rape culture...
I'm going to make an assumption that you are American and have met immigrant women from India here in the U. S.
The majority are because they or their spouses have EB-1 visas--those with Extraordinary Ability, Outstanding professors and researcher, or Certain
Multinational managers or executives.
Those are nearly always Brahmin caste opportunities. Kshatriya sometimes.

The Brahmin caste women hardly ever have to make a move in their lives without a chauffeur or servant watching over them. (India has a very specific system as to which servent sweep, cook, greet guests, hang clothes, tend to the dishes, cooking, polishing, etc. There's no overlap)

When my husband worked in India as a manager in a multinational company I was discouraged from going out by myself, warned constantly of "dangers" (I'd already been to India solo 2 times before with no such buffering, solo, so it seemed very... Unnecessary to me. However, there was pressure on the Indian branch of the company to keep me safe, much like a family's honor is riding on the "virtue" of its daughters. I couldn't step outside without our 24-hr on duty a day driver rushing up to me to shadow my movements. If I expressed interest in a new piece of luggage, directions weren't given to me, the driver didn't take me, people from I-don't-know-where were sent running out into the city to present a selection, under the supervision of out Houseman.
I never had an opportunity for something bad to happen to me

In other words, the women you have met, they seldom, if ever are left vulnerable to sexual violence. Oh, they are warned about it for sure, what would happen if they let down their guard for a moment or travel beyond the perimeter of their property if they do. The bogey-man, if you will, ready to pounce.

But... there is something called "Eve-teasing".
I encountered this traveling solo.
As defined by Indian law it is :

"Under Section 509 of the IPC, obscene gestures, indecent body language and negative comments directed at any woman or girl or exhibiting any object which intrudes upon the privacy of a woman, carries a penalty of imprisonment for one year or a fine or both"

And:

" The Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013 introduced changes to the Indian Penal Code, making sexual harassment an expressed offence under Section 354 A, which is punishable up to three years of imprisonment and or with fine."

AND hell, yeah, that happened many times when I traveled solo. You get followed, men try to hold your hand, stop and stare far to long, ask you to sit down on a bench with them, try to peek thru your window.

Sounds mild? Well it's a big deal in India.

But it's not rape

So, please, before furthering the disparaging of Indian culture, with an unclear anecdotal smattering of examples, please re-ask the women from the sub-continent specifically what they have experienced.

My intention is not to cast aspersions on you, and I appreciate your input, it certainly has brought nuance and texture to the conversation that statistics or my experience simply can't hope to do. Having said that, I feel you were hearing more about the dire warnings these insulated women lived under, and the "eve-teasing", because honestly, and again no insult, I find it very unlikely that an Indian woman confided in you that she was raped, that she felt familiar enough with you to speak of this, that you understood her culture and what it meant, to admit this to you, otherwise it wouldn't have been necessary for me to explain why I believe you are not that familiar with Indian culture.

Also. If any of these acquaintances or friends had been raped? They wouldn't be in America.
College and or a marriage to someone, or having the opportunity to gain extrordinary ability, and get an EB-1 visa? Not going to happen. They would no longer be marriage prime material. Sadly that is true.

Now if you are hob-nobbing with Bollywood actresses or your examples have been raped by family members, then certainly, that will be the impression you may reasonably have.

Otherwise, I stand by my words, and am getting well fed-up with the repeated racist and barely informed declarations, as though they are rock-solid, carefully researched facts, that non-white people from non-western countries are nothing but out-of-control amoral rapists and inhumane monsters. It's an ugly, ignorant, and agenda driven narrative.

Put "India" into a search here. I counted 200 references to India being "rapey" since 2020.

She saw a movie.
I wonder what the world would think of the U. S. if they only saw the movies The Accused, I Spit on Your Grave, and The Hills Have Eyes?

India means something to me, not as an abstract, not because I like curry.
My best friend of 30 years is from India, I've been in India for years at a time, I like the Indian sense of humor, and after my mom died, when I returned to India, I visited a friend in the hospital with a broken neck (she'd been helping a neighbor, she wasn't raped) and it was Hindu nuns who found me, and wanted to help a stranger. When I remember my mom, I think of those women with their small fluttering hands, trying so much to smooth my agony away with comfort.
I care about others knowing the beauty of India.

I wouldn't reveal this much for some of the jackals here to mock, if it wasn't important.

And honestly, I'm disappointed. You are the last member I thought I would feel compelled to explain this to.

I think I've probably used up my time here. I don't think I belong here anymore at this site. It's exhausting.

Aaaand, I just posted the above, opened my alerts and saw this:

Of course. No comment about neighbors getting ridiculous. Just another assertion Indians rape infants. That NEVER happens in the U. S. Or Sweden. Or Belgium.
Only where there are "sub-humans"

I give up.

It's ALWAYS Buddha's birthday according to the touts in Thailand.
"Oh, (where ever you're going) is closed. Buddha's birthday. But I know where you can buy gems (glass) from my cousin and sell them for a lot back in (wherever you're from) no duty!"

I trust your knowledge more than mine 0, there's nothing I have in common with the hindu people other the the love for spicy food.

But they stopped selling the best spicy jalapeño Hannover (not the German one, the American) pretzels recently, cause they gave cancer or something.
WHO CARES, they were the best food I have ever eaten, cancer is a reasonable price to pay for that mouth orgasm.

Sticking to the orgasm theme, I should have known better, back when I started being vegetarian, there came some Indian "guru" to my hometown, and almost all he spoke of was Kamasutra. I don't blame him, Poland has 99% catholics, not because they believe in God or anything like that, it's because it's harder to actually,.legally cease to be a catholic, than to become a president, so the guy needed some "upper hand" to get some followers.

I was 10 at the time, with the majority of other people three being older women trying to find out how to strengthen their clitorises, so the atmosphere was weird, to put it mildly

"women trying to find out how to strengthen their clitorises"

Now I have this mental image of little tiny sets of barbells...

Haha, I was actually serious about that.

In Poland we have the 99% of the old ladies who "find god" again after they are close to dying (even the hookers who worked well after the time for their pension came), and 1% who believe even God can't help em, so they seek some new age stuff where they don't care.

I had a neighbor who was around 60 ten years ago, and her husband has told me he has caught her cheating on him at least once per year, in his own bed, but she turned 65 and went to the 6 am mass every day(I think mass should official mean only the Sunday ceremony, but I'm not sure. Plus I don't know how many "s" should there be xD).

Her family probably gave me the biggest motivation to break away from the dump I lived in, her son had 3 children, two of them neglected to the highest level possible, who acted like they were at least 5 years younger than they were. The son was in and out of the prison or whatever pussy was dumb enough to let him in, and his wife was crying to my best friend/next door neighbor who was like 25 years older than me (don't ask, don't tell), but she was trying so fucking hard to do the best thing for her children and the family, it was very impressive. She had a nickname "monsoon" cause she was bringing those two older children to the school everyday, like a hurricane, and coming back home as soon as possible to make sure her husband didn't bring any girl in or went to work.
