PLEASANT HILL, Mo. -- Prosecutors charged a 29-year-old man with second-degree murder in the death of a 3-year-old boy, according to court documents.

Javier Ruben Barker hit and kicked his girlfriend's son in a Pleasant Hill home, and he died as a result of his injuries, according to court documents.

His injuries included severe brain trauma, a skull fracture and contusions to his body, according to court documents.

He also suffered significant bruising and swelling of the exterior sides of both ankles, according to court documents.


Pleasant Hill police were called to the home on Eagle Drive after the boy's mother returned home from work, according to court documents.

The boy was found unresponsive on the floor of a bedroom and was rushed to Children's Mercy Hospital for treatment, according to court documents.

The mother had left him and her 5-year-old child in Barker's care while she worked overnight, and when she left for work at about 10:30 p.m. on Friday, the boy was uninjured, according to court documents.

The 5-year-old told police he saw Barker step on his younger brother's ankles and that Barker told him to go back into the living room and watch a movie that was playing, which he did, according to court documents.

The 5-year-old also told police that when Barker went back into the bedroom several times when his younger brother continued to scream and cry and he could hear Barker spanking his younger brother, according to court documents.

When the 5-year-old expressed concerned, Barker told him that he was not spanking the 3-year-old, according to court documents.

After Barker made several trips to the bedroom, the 5-year-old said his younger brother stopped crying and went to sleep, according to court documents.

Barker denied knowing about the 3-year-old's injuries, according to court documents.

Barker was being held in the Cass County Jail on Monday on a $250,000 bond, according to the Cass County Sheriff's Department.

Every time I read about a mother who is working hard for her children trying to provide and do the right thing, I smile. Then we read about the useless boyfriend or stepfather who watches her child then turns up dead...all I want to do is cry.
I put my self in this mother's place and wonder what I would do? You think you have met someone worthy of your love, you trust enough to care for your child, and all you get is a chattered life...only memories of a child you once held in your arms and loved more than life.

It is easy for me to say, look at that fuctard's picture and ask, would you trust him with your precious child??? I'd say no, but then, I don't know this person from Adam. I would like to believe that this mother really felt she could trust this man. On the other hand what if she really didn't know him and left her children with this bastard because she had no one else to leave them with...what do you do? did she have the choice to leave him with a trusted family member and decided this makes more sense after all he lives here with me.
I cannot understand completely because I am not a single mom with a new boyfriend, what I do know is that my children are my treasures and I would never leave them with someone's care unless I COMPLETELY trusted them, even then....it would be so hard to leave them out of my own care. I would like to say this mother was an idiot and should have known better...it sure as hell would make me feel better to call her out on her stupidity. How long did she know him? did he have a record? how did he treat her children? did she ever leave them alone with him before? did she have a choice??? Maybe, but I don't know, and dammit, I want answers! It just fuck'n breaks my heart to think of this sweet boy being beat mercilessly until he stopped crying the lay down to die.

Javier Ruben Barker, you are a despicable, useless excuse for a human being. I wouldn't trust you to care for my aloe plant...I hate the vile, disgusting soul that you carry. You killed a baby, a precious one...for that you deserve death.

For those that don't know...I came across a news thing that said, Javier Ruben Barker had been found guilty and sentenced to 55 years in February 2011...sorry I am unable to link an article to it...just thought someone would want to know.
 
Everything I can find is a blog or a sick crimes site (which I never heard of til today)
