A newborn boy died at a hospital in England from a brain hemorrhage during a botched forceps delivery which used an “excessive degree of force,” a coroner ruled.

Frederick Joseph Terry, also known as Freddie, was delivered via C-section at a hospital in Essex in November 2019, but died after 40 minutes of unsuccessful resuscitation attempts, BBC News reported, citing the coroner’s findings.

“The evidence showed that baby Freddie’s very serious scalp and brain injuries were sustained during the failed forceps attempted delivery and, but for these, baby Freddie would have survived as a perfectly formed, healthy baby,” coroner Caroline Beasley-Murray wrote in a report to prevent such fatalities in the future.

“In my opinion there is a risk that future deaths will occur unless action is taken,” Beasley-Murray wrote.
The newborn died from hypovolemic shock caused by scalp and brain injuries from birth trauma, Beasley-Murray found.

I'm glad that doctors 40+years ago were a little bit quicker to go to the C-section when it's obvious this big headed baby is absolutely not fitting in the birth canal.

It could have been the doctor but it also could have ben the mother absolutely refusing to have a C-section because she preferred a natural birth. Not saying that I know anything about this at all, but it's happened before.

Worst night ever my girlfriend had severe pains while pregnant and only 1 doctor to cover the whole of maternity ward its discusting it took 1 doctor 45 minutes to review 1 persons notes to be told to go home at nealy 1 am after being given 4 cocodamol discusting service i suggest queens for the future and for any person who has fallen pregnant to avoid broomfield. I was asked to be quiet as i had to ask multiple times where the doctor was and if my partner would be allowed home as it is 1 am and i got told the doctor would get here when he does around 5 minutes after i walked round to reception where the doctor sat doing sweet nothing besides having a chuckle with his colleagues

Transferred with my premature babies from London hospital to neonatal unit.
Told I wasn't allowed to breastfeed my twins by nurse. I asked if I could and she told me no, only when we do our care routine.)
I lost my milk and I never breastfed despite all the work I'd done in London hospital with the wonderful and helpful nurses.
Appalled by staff behaviour.
Level of care nowhere NEAR London despite it looking like they had a lot more money.
Wouldn't recommend to anyone as nurses made a very stressful time, far more stressful. A mother should always have a right to feed her children- apparently not in YOUR hospital.

Unprofessional, rude, uncaring and dangerous behaviour of nurse R. S of Rayne Ward A304 as she discharged my 85 yr old mother with advanced cancer in last days of life, ignoring palliative care team despite being asked to call them. Only intervention of hospice prevented my mother being sent home alone with no end of life nursing in place. Call from hospice and family stepping in meant my mother finally was seen by palliative care palliative dr and is now on morphine to keep pain at bay in her last few hours/days. She was crying out in agony and ignored. I hope lessons are learnt and that no other patient has to go through this hell. No doubt nursing shortages mean they can behave how they want and there is no redress. Callous. No stars but cannot post this without one

Following 9.5 hours of waiting on an emergency trolley on Sunday with my terminally ill mother with constipation (so we were told), we were discharged in error before the problem was resolved.
We went home and decided that the place was so unprofessional and frankly dangerous to my mothers life, that we decided to treat the issue ourselves and used the farleigh and district nurses for pain relief.
A week later we received a call from a so called doctor at broomfield to say they had missed something and in fact she had a leaking intestine....6 days after we had been told it was constipation. The doctor on the phone told us to get an ambulance fast as Mum was potentially in serious trouble and the condition was fatal. Upon arriving we were told a team of surgeons awaited us but they needed to do another X-ray.......8 hours later we lost our tempers. 8 hours my mum lay on a bed crying with us all believing she was potentially dying in front of us, or was going to die on an operating table as she just isn’t in the condition to withstand an operation. No one cared. No one listened. And when we asked for help we were told they were understaffed. To top it all my mother soiled herself and we waited more than 30 mins after informing a nurse before we cleaned it ourselves. No dignity. After 8 hours and us having a few strong words, plus a call to our solicitor, we were seen and guess what??? Another error...nothing wrong with her after all. Waste of time going here. barely able to understand the doctors, they take calls during discussions about symptoms and drugs already taken...surely u need to concentrate on this bit. I will be writing to the complaints department but I will also be speaking to legal about it all. And as for the doctor who “came in because they said I had to” you are lucky my mother taught me more morals and respect than yours taught you.

Maternity ward, especially the midwifes were Beyond Useless. We've waited over 4 hours to be discharged.

After 20+ hours of labor I had a c-section, my child was “sunny side up” which is a fun term for a not so fun baby position. His head was stuck in my cervix for hours, I begged the doctor to use the vacuum or anything to get him out, but he said he didn’t like to use those as baby’s heads are so fragile and he was not in a great position. C-section it was, and even though I almost died it was the right move, my child is healthy with no brain trauma. My heart breaks for this family who prepared for little Freddie to come home
