A Wichita Falls couple who shot a 14-year-old boy with a pellet gun as punishment for looking away from a piece of duct tape have pleaded guilty to child abuse charges, court documents showed.
Jennifer Lynn Nash, 44, was sentenced to two years of probation on a reduced charge of reckless injury to a child.
Buford Junior Whisenant was sentenced to three years of probation for injury to a child with intent to cause bodily injury.
Probable cause affidavits gave this account: On Jan. 29, 2016, Wichita Falls police went to Kirby Junior High School to check on a 14-year-old boy with injuries on his chest and abdomen.
The teenager told officers that when he got home the day before, Whisenant and Nash forced him to stand straight up and focus on a piece of gray duct tape on a bathroom door.
While doing so, he had to hold cans of peas in each hand and move his arms up and down. When he looked away from the tape, Whisenant shot him with a black "Zombie Exterminator" pellet gun with neon green coloring.
The boy was then required to do air squats. When his legs locked up from fatigue, Whisenant shot him again. The 14-year-old was then forced to do pushups.
When he couldn’t do them anymore, Whisenant put a bar of soap in a pillowcase and beat him with it on his legs, lower chest and stomach.
Officers found injuries consistent with the attack the youth described.
When Whisenant and Nash were interviewed at the police station, both admitted to making the boy do squats, pushups and arm extensions, as well as shooting him with pellets.
They also said they allowed the boy to eat only ramen noodle soup to punish him
