A 4-year-old boy was shot dead early Thursday during a home invasion robbery in Philadelphia, according to local reports.

The boy’s father called 911 around 1 a.m., saying that the robbery occurred at their North Philly home on Lambert Street near West Susquehanna Avenue, CBS Philadelphia reported.

The man said he was at home with the 4-year-old and a younger child, while their mom was at work, when the invasion happened.

“He reported that it was a home invasion robbery when he called it into police radio and to the first responding officers,” Acting Philadelphia Police Commissioner Christine Coulter told the station.

“We don’t have any viable flash at this time regarding the person involved, but hopefully as [the boy’s father] is questioned at Homicide, we will be able to get a clearer picture as to what exactly happened.”

When cops arrived, the young boy was upstairs in a bedroom, unconscious and unresponsive. His father was downstairs holding the younger child.

“[The boy] was obviously rushed to the hospital and was pronounced at the hospital,” Coulter said.

There were no signs of forced entry or a struggle at the home, investigators said, according to NBC 10 Philadelphia.

Police say a 4-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed himself after playing with a gun he found in a closet inside a North Philadelphia home, early Thursday morning. Police say the father, 28-year-old Edward Williams Sr., initially reported it as a home invasion but made up the story.

When officers arrived, Williams told police that a suspect forced their way into his house and shot someone upstairs. That’s when police found 4-year-old Edward Williams Jr. unconscious and unresponsive in a bedroom. He was rushed to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children where he was pronounced dead.

Police say Williams was sleeping at the time when his young son found the 9mm glock. A 3-year-old child was also in the bedroom when Edward accidentally shot himself.

Police say the gun was not stolen but did not belong to Williams.

Investigators say the child’s mother was at work at the time of the deadly shooting.

The shooting is hitting the community hard.

“I’m speechless. I think everybody is crying out for help, to be honest. So many hidden agendas, so many sicknesses, illnesses, people are crying out for help and this is the only way, I guess, to get it.

Williams may face charges but he has not been arrested.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police say the father of a 4-year-old boy who was shot and killed inside a home in North Philadelphia fabricated his story that the child was gunned down during a home invasion.
In a news conference on Thursday afternoon, police said it appears the child shot himself with the gun.
Police say the gun does not appear to be stolen, but it wasn't registered to the father.

Authorities say a 4-year-old boy died Thursday morning after he accidentally shot himself with a gun he found in the closet of a North Philadelphia home.

Investigators say Williams has seven prior arrests. Police believe he was likely trying to hide his “illegal” possession of the loaded gun kept where his child could find it.

According to police, the 3-year-old child, who woke his sleeping father after the shooting, told investigators what he saw.

Why do they always interview this guy? Every time there's a tragedy in the hood, they go find this guy to get a quote from.

Right after a tornado hit last summer I was outside with my neighbors surveying the damage and the news crew came. I didn't want to be on camera because I was in a old shirt and gym shorts. Three of the other neighbors declined also. The reporter turned to me and said "You when you all asked why we interviewed THAT GUY, we'll it's because usually THAT GUY is the only one that will talk to us on camera".

Dude, that makes so much sense.

I'd talk to' em, no problem, but I'd be THAT OTHER GUY, the one where they're like "we can't use any of this shit, we'd get fired" and they have to use the THAT GUY footage instead.
