Pixyninjette,

Sorry for your loss.

I've never been of the opinion that music, on it's own, can drive anyone to murder or commit suicide. I'm not sure if that's what's being said in this case.

This case seems like a very tragic waste of life.

That's the first I'd heard of this story, earlier today on CNN.com - and I checked DD, found the thread, and I've spent the last 6 hours reading and viewing videos and news links....what a sick fucker.

So he travels out of state for a few days to hook up with an underage chick he met online...things are great! Till things go really bad - so, soaked with the stench of decomposition, he calls police to the house where the bodies are...later, he crashes a car stolen from one of his victims, then hitches a ride in the tow truck, eats in a diner, and takes a cab to the airport? Stinking of death, as everyone he encountered has said?

I think he wanted to get caught - maybe hoping for suicide by cop? He deserves the punishment, I just hope it's not that humane.

This story is going to be on Anderson Cooper 360 on CNN tonite..... interesting to see what he is going to say about this.

When horrorcore killer Richard 'Sam' McCroskey wrote songs like "Murderous Rage,'' and "Evil Voices,'' it sounds like the work of a deeply disturbed kid aiming for shock value.
With his standard issue death metal growl and a musical backdrop of creepshow strings and operatic choruses, 'Syko Sam' sounds more like a boy pretending to be a psycho than an actual psycho himself.
But now that he's been arrested for the quadruple murder of Virginia teens Melanie Wells, Emma Niederbrock and Niederbrock's parents, it sounds like he was foreshadowing the killings in his songs.
Or is it possible he made the music after the fatal bludgeonings? Some 'Syko Sam' videos were posted on YouTube after the September 18 killings, apparently not by McCroskey himself but someone with the screen name "SykoSam666.''
Whenever fans of a fringe musical genre--from black metal to Marilyn Manson--commit a crime, we question whether the violence was influenced by the music or whether violent kids, along with more harmless fans, are more likely to seek it out.
Horrorcore and similar genres may frighten outsiders--which is what it's supposed to do-but most fans are drawn to the theatrics and understand it's fiction. Adults were horrified when Alice Cooper sang about necrophilia and staged mock hangings back in the 1970s. But now we can recognize him as the campy showman he really was. Menacing acts like Gwar and Slipknot will probably look the same in another 20 years.
Horrorcore is a deeply obscure, goth-influenced subgenre of rap. So far, attempts to define it in the light of McCroskey's alleged killings have been nebulous.
But if you're kid was into it, you'd be worried. Bands have names like Dismembered Fetus and fans chat online about the occult. In horrorcore, the grotesque imagery has a quality of one-upmanship, as if the artists were saying, 'you think that's evil, well what about THIS?'
Were the slayings of Neiderbrock and her family McCroskey's bizarre attempt to gain credibility with other horrorcore artists and fans?
In the annals of 'devil music' murders, this one seems different. It's rare that homicidal fans are performers themselves. And how many shock rock fans have carried out crimes they foretold in their songs?
Because of Richard McCroskey, parents now have to ask themselves whether extreme 'entertainment--from gory rock to homemade slasher films-- could ever become reality.
When the creepy garage band next door starts posting morbid fantasies on YouTube, you have to wonder whether any of it happened--or is about to happen. To your family.

At least three of the four victims found slain in a Farmville home last month had been bludgeoned with a wood-cutting maul, sources close to the case tell CBS 6.

The female victims – 18-year-old Melanie Wells, 16-year old Emma Niederbrock and her mother, Debra S. Kelley, were struck while asleep or in an otherwise defenseless position, the sources said. There is no evidence at this point of any sexual assaults.

The fourth victim, Mark Niederbrock – Emma's father and Kelley's estranged husband – is believed to have been struck with a chunk of wood and perhaps the maul as well, the sources said. A maul is a heavy, doubleheaded tool with sharp, splitting edge as well as a blunt, sledgehammerlike face.
McCroskey, who is being held in jail without bond, has been charged only in connection with Mark Niederbrock's death and the items taken from him, including his car. Those charges are first-degree murder, robbery and grand larceny.

Sources tell CBS-6 that capital murder charges are expected to be filed in two weeks. A capital murder conviction can potentially lead to a death sentence.

I wonder why he hasn't been charged in the other 3 deaths. Maybe they think someone else was involved?

The only thing I can come up with is double jeopardy. If the jury finds him not guilty (Jesus made him do it or whatever), they can always try him for the other three. Aside from that I am wondering the same thing.

Maybe I missed it, but has it been determined that all the women died at the same time? If not, could it be that one of the girls helped him kill the mother and the other girl and then he decided to kill her as well?

Melanie Wells' mother in West Virginia called Farmville police and Mark Niederbrock when she hadn't heard from her daughter. In response, Farmville police did a so-called "welfare check" on the house late at night on Sept. 17. McCroskey answered the door and gave reasonable answers to the officer, who then left, according to police reports. Earlier that afternoon, Mark Niederbrock told a relative he was going to the house to make sure everything was okay. He was found dead in a different part of the house than the other victims, official sources said.

A young California man was indicted today on six counts of capital murder for the slayings of four people found dead in a home here.

Richard Samuel Alden McCroskey III of Castro Valley, Calif., was also indicted on charge of grand larceny, said Wade Stimpson, acting Farmville police chief.

Found bludgeoned to death inside the home were Longwood University professor Debra S. Kelley, 53, who lived there; her estranged husband, Mark Niederbrock, 50; their daughter, Emma Niederbrock, 16; and a friend from Inwood, W.Va., Melanie Wells, 18.

McCroskey, 20, met Emma Niederbrock online through their interest in horrorcore rap music and flew to Virginia on Sept. 6 to meet her for the first time.

In Virginia capital murder is not a single crime. A person can be charged, tried, convicted and sentenced to death for capital murder in the furtherance of terrorism as well as capital murder for committing more than one murder in a three-year period.

The documents indicate all three female victims were found in one bedroom.

But evidence from the attacks were found in other rooms. In the den alone, for example, investigators found paper towels with red stains under a chair and under the rug, a stained blue sundress under a chair and a chunk of hair. In one of the bedrooms, investigators found stains on a chair and stained eyeglasses on the floor.

Also significant in the documents was the large quantity of different types of pills that were found in the house or in the 2000 four-door Honda that McCroskey allegedly took from Mark Neiderbrock, one of the victims.

Good Lord!!! I don't even want to start to imagine what those two young girls went through. He is an evil animal.... I would be destroyed if I accidentally took someones life like through a car accident, or for that matter not able to save a drowning person or something on that level. BUT to actually purposefully bludgen 4 people.... jesus, what kind of person can do this? AND THEN to stay there with their rotting corpses??? WTF???????

Two weapons—a ball-peen hammer and a wood-splitting maul—were used to bludgeon four people found dead inside a Longwood University professor’s home in September, a source close to the investigation confirmed yesterday.

Also yesterday, Richard Samuel Alden McCroskey III, 20, of Castro Valley, Calif., was served with indictments on six counts of capital murder in the bludgeoning deaths of professor Debra S. Kelley, 53; her estranged husband, Mark Niederbrock, 50; their daughter, Emma Niederbrock, 16; and Melanie Wells, 18, Emma’s friend from Inwood, W.Va.

All four were discovered dead Sept. 18 in Kelley’s Farmville home.

McCroskey, who recorded violent rap music using the name “Syko Sam,“ also faces a charge of grand larceny that accuses him of stealing Mark Niederbrock’s car.

A Prince Edward County grand jury returned the indictments Oct. 19, but they were sealed until yesterday.

Investigators recovered several possible weapons from the home, including the ball-peen hammer and wood-splitting maul, according to the court papers unsealed yesterday. A maul is a tool with a long handle with a head like an ax on one side and a hammer on the other.

All four victims were bludgeoned beyond recognition, the source said.

Officials also removed from the Kelley home a meat cleaver and a red-stained knife, but authorities do not believe either of those weapon was used in the killings, the source said.

Three of the four bodies were found in a downstairs bedroom, according to court documents. The other was found in a room upstairs. Authorities have not said which bodies were found in which room.

Authorities believe one or more of the victims might have been attacked while sleeping, but they don’t know that for certain, the source said.

The ball-peen hammer and the maul already were in the home and were not acquired for the purpose of committing the killings, the source said.

McCroskey has not discussed the crimes with investigators.

Authorities say they might never know on what day the three female victims died, although investigators say they believe Mark Niederbrock was killed after Kelley and the two teenagers. Charging documents filed earlier in the case say Niederbrock was killed Sept. 17, the day before the bodies were found.

At least 98 items were recovered from Kelley’s home, including sketchbooks, electronic equipment, a pair of stained eyeglasses, and a note to Wells found on a kitchen table. The search warrant return did not indicate what the note said or who wrote it.

McCroskey might have documented his activities while at Kelley’s home using a computer, cell phone or camera, according to an affidavit for a search warrant. Digital cameras might contain pictures of the crime scene, the affidavit states.

Court documents also name items seized from Niederbrock’s stolen car, including an assortment of pills and a folding knife, and items from a satchel McCroskey had with him when he was arrested Sept. 19 at Richmond International Airport. Police believe he spent the night at the airport awaiting a return flight to California.

Investigators sought phone records from Mark and Emma Niederbrock’s cell phones and retrieved call records and text-message data, according to an affidavit for one of several search warrants.

McCroskey met Emma Niederbrock online through their mutual interest in horrorcore rap music. He flew to Virginia on Sept. 6 to meet her for the first time and to attend a horrorcore show with her and Wells in Michigan. Kelley and Mark Niederbrock accompanied the teenagers and McCroskey to Michigan.

Representing McCroskey are attorneys Cary B. Bowen and G. Russell Stone Jr. Stone said last night that it was too early to say much about the capital-murder charges, but he said neither he nor his client was surprised by them.

Prince Edward Commonwealth’s Attorney James R. Ennis was not taking questions yesterday, according to a woman at his office.

In Virginia, a person can be charged with capital murder when there are certain aggravating circumstances such as the murder of a police officer; murder in the commission of a rape or robbery; or more than one murder in a three-year period. A defendant can be charged, tried and convicted of more than one count of capital murder for the same murder.

Each of the capital-murder indictments against McCroskey charges him with killing multiple people within three years.

His next court date is Jan. 19, when a trial date is scheduled to be set.

Ok first of all. what the fuck. Get your facts straight before you wanna try and put someone on blast. For one, my parents are not hells angels, I do NOT live ina fuckin crack house or in san leandro for that matter. Hello....it fuckin says castro valley u dumb fuck. I did NOT stop raving because people were insecure and decided to come online and bash someone they didnt know but didnt have the balls to say shit to my face. I can really give a fuck what any of you think for that matter, I am just setting the record straight.

Yeah your definitely one to talk down upon people you two faced fuck sideshow. Nice to someones face but then as soon as you can hide in ur dark ass stanky filthy room im sure u stay inand sit in front of a screen probably beating off to the fact that a girl actually accept your friend request on myspace...thats when you decide to talk shit. Yeah. way to go. Everyone give it up for this lazy fat fuck.

I like how none of you actually have your own opinion. As soon as someone said they didnt like me, what did you do...jump on the fuckin bandwagon. Can any of you think for yourselves? As a matter of fact, we did not give anyone consent to put our pictures up on the internet, my phone number, my house all over the news not blurring out my address or license plate number. Its the fuckin media...they dont care about consent. So before you go and try and talk like you know whats goin on and giving out facts, why dont you at least try and get some true facts to add some truth to your story ok.

I am in no way using my brother being accused to try and get "famous" I am doing pretty fucking good being in magazines and newspaper for my production company I run, for you to accuse me of such things is bullshit. My brother is innocent, I want people to know who my brother is to stop and think..."hey is this guy really capable of killing 4 people by himself without one fucking person hearing a scream?"

No, there is WAY more to this fucked up situation then the media is gonna let out. There is no truth behind anything you have seen or read on the news. He was setup...i cant say anything but let me tell you. After all this is done, everyone is gonna feel real fuckin stupid. You have no idea how much it hurts to have the cops ransack your house, trash everything, press everywhere with you not being able to go home because of it. The whole world having my number, calling me left and right to either say they are sorry or say they are gonna fuckin slice my throat. My personal life has been put up on fuckin display for the whole entire world to see. I hope that one of your loved ones does this shit and lets see how you fuckin feel to come online and see your name being thrown around and dragged in the mud JUST for being related....

I have really cleaned up my life and was going somewhere and now I have to start all over cause everything has been taken away. You know, a lot of you were my friends. And now you sit here talking shit just cause you wanna waste some of your miserable life on here talking shit with all the rest of the losers, clicking refresh every 10 seconds praying that one of your "friends" is agreeing with you. You guys make me sick. I dont need anyones fucking sympathy, and I can give a fuck what you think. You arent going to put a damper on my day. So go ahead, sit on your ass day and try to come up with a witty comeback or comment so the internet message board geeks will think you are cool for 2 seconds. As long as it makes you feel better.

Thank you mark for being a true friend. You need to let me know what time you work next cause I pass your work at least 4 times a day. I could really use a mark burger :-)

yeah. he was set up. then stayed in the house with the dead bodies, lied to police, and then stole a car. but he was totally innocent.

I've been following this case elsewhere. Just read this thread. I kinda think he wanted to be a legend in life like he was in his own mind. His music completely lacks nuance. I don't think he was very talented or very handsome or interesting.

But he is now, huh-- so I guess in a way he's already succeeded....?
