An Evansville mother will serve prison time in connection with the death of her 3-month-old son last year.

A jury found Chelsea Marksberry, 33, guilty of neglect of a dependent resulting in death after a three-day trial in early June.

Marksberry was sentenced to 20 years in prison followed by 10 years of therapeutic work release, a Vanderburgh County Circuit Court employee said.

During her trial, Marksberry admitted to doing drugs, including heroin, in the days before Kieran's death. She admitted knowing that Kieran's father, Jacob Bengert, was also using illegal substances at the time.

Jacob Bengert, 30, was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 65 years in prison in November. He has filed an appeal, online court records show.

He really was. My Jacob’s one of the cutest babies I’ve seen, and this little doll baby was just as cute as my own son. They could’ve given bubs to me, even though I had an infant at the time. Jacob was 2 months old when this happened.

It is reprehensible! Horrible! I can’t imagine hurting that absolute, sweet loveliness of my Child, Grands, now GreatGrand! or any Child I’ve known. My heart would be shattered. The cigarette burn is evil as all of the other intentional injuries visited upon Kieran! I hope they are treated in the same way and they have a miserable time!
