Deputies say a Gainesville woman who accused neighborhood children of trying to beat up her daughter retaliated by cutting one of them with a meat cleaver.
Brandy Lee Johnson, 33, joined her children in an argument shortly before noon Saturday with a group of other neighborhood children at Oak Park Village where they all lived, according to an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.
Some of the children ran toward Johnson after she accused them of beating her daughter, the report said, and she ran back into her home.
As the children were walking back to their own home afterward, Johnson came out with a large knife in her hand, the report said.
She then struck a 16-year-old from behind, the report said, delivering a deep cut to her elbow.
A video reviewed by law enforcement on Monday showed a person matching Johnson’s physical description cutting the child, the report said.
Celeste Dale, the mother of the teen cut with the knife, filed two reports with the Sheriff’s Office the previous Tuesday and Thursday, which outlined multiple instances in which the neighborhood children were fighting.
Dale told deputies her 12-year-old daughter was “jumped” and choked by a group of children, including Johnson’s, which led to the confrontations on Saturday.
Johnson later admitted to law enforcement she had struck her with a meat cleaver, the report said. Deputies charged her with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
