Two people have been arrested after a four-year-old was killed and her three-year-old sister hospitalized in Natchez.

Police Chief Walter Armstrong says the children were severely abused.

25-year-old Lakeisha Marie Jones, the children’s mother, and 24-year-old James Christopher Anderson have both been arrested and charged.

4-year-old Armani Hill was pronounced dead in a Merit Natchez emergency room at 12:35 p.m. Wednesday. Natchez Coroner James Lee said an autopsy shows that the child died from blunt force trauma.

“I wish I had the correct words to describe how devastating this is," said Coroner Lee. “God have Mercy."

When the officers that were dispatched arrived they were stopped by a vehicle that had what appeared to be a very sick child inside. The officer immediately realized that both of the girls were in critical condition and had been severely abused.

Both children were taken to the hospital. Police said they had at least 12 injuries, but would not go into detail about what those injuries were.

Armani Hill died at the hospital and her 3-year-old sister was taken to a level 1 trauma hospital and is listed in critical condition.

Police say that Anderson was the only person home with the girls at the time of the abuse because their mother left the children in his care Tuesday night while she worked an 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift.

After the abuse allegedly occurred, police say Anderson made the children walk 1/4 of a mile to the Holiday Apartment Complex on Old Washington Road where his mother lived. Police said one of the girls kept falling down during the walk from being injured so badly.

from the linked article:
"Child Protection Services went into detail about their involvement, saying they received two prior reports of abuse involving the same children since December 2018. The agency says they investigated the reporters’ concerns and the evidence did not support substantiation of the allegations. Even so, MDCPS opened an “in-home” case and made repeated visits with the children and family from January until May of this year, but no safety concerns ever came up and no child abuse or harm was noted. The case was closed on June 4 after the agency met with Jones, the children and the children’s grandmother. The children were never placed in MDCPS custody. "

looks like they closed the case a week too early, OR, these assholes were on their very best behavior while they were being watched.

I’m betting on the second. Surprised he waited a whole week.

According to the father of two little Natchez girls, he had no idea where his children were or that they were being abused.

Deonte Hill is now in Mississippi trying to see the body of four-year-old Armani and to visit three-year-old Lailah in the hospital.

“I hadn’t seen them for about a year,” said Hill.

He traveled to Natchez from his Detroit home after his family learned on social media that Armani died Thursday and his daughter Lailah was in the hospital after being severely beaten by their mother’s boyfriend.

“It’s a lot to take in. It’s a terrible, terrible, terrible loss and I’m just trying to be strong because I’ve got to think about my daughter’s recovery,” said a heartbroken Hill. “My main focus is just getting them two to come back home with me."

The 29-year-old construction worker said the children’s mother, LaKeisha Jones, took them from his Michigan home and never returned, later cutting off all communication with him.

He said he was not aware the girls were being abused.

“We had broken up and she told me that she was going to take the kids to a birthday party,” said Hill. “I asked her to make sure they made it back to the house at a decent time, and she never came back. A few weeks after that she gave me a call and said she was out in Louisiana."

A 3-year-old girl who was critically injured in a child abuse case that ended with her 4-year-old sister’s death has been released from a Jackson hospital, police said.

Lailah Hill, 3, spent about a month at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She was released from the hospital this week, Natchez police said. Lailah and her 8-year-old brother have been placed in state foster care, police said.

Penis Anderson is charged with two counts of felonious abuse to a child.

Egg Jones is charged with two counts of child deprivation of necessities with substantial harm.

Two frontline caseworkers and one supervisor were terminated Friday morning by the Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services following the agency’s completion of an internal investigation.

Disciplinary action has also been taken against two additional supervisors involved in the agency’s handling of the Armani Hill case.

MDCPS announced Friday that the child welfare agency had completed its review of a month-long internal investigation into the child abuse case which examined actions taken and not taken by its frontline and supervisory staff prior to the 4-year-old child’s death.

Hill died June 5th in Natchez after receiving a beating so severe she could no longer walk, according to Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong. A 3-year-old sibling in the home was also beaten. The younger child was hospitalized in critical condition but has since recovered from her injuries.

“The three employees terminated today were suspended during the internal investigation by the agency in June and have not been allowed to return to work at MDCPS since that time,” said Kris Jones, Deputy Commissioner of Administration.

The disciplinary action is related to conduct during the frontline staff’s investigation and a subsequent in-home case related to two prior reports of abuse involving the same children since December 2018.

New developments in a Natchez child abuse case. The man charged with killing a four-year-old girl last June has been indicted.

James Christopher Anderson, 25, was charged with the murder of Armani Hill. She died from blunt force trauma to her head, neck and abdomen.

Her younger sister, Lailah Hill, was also severely beaten but survived.

Why didn't he contact the police immediately after that bitch absconded with his little girls?
I don’t trust CPS, but methinks there must be a reason a judge didn’t want them placed with their remaining bio parent instead of going to foster care. Like you, Im having a hard time understanding how you could be okay with your childrens mom kidnapping them and not make a peep about it for over a year? Why, because he “didn’t think they were being abused”? yes let’s entrust our children to the kind of unstable and cold person who would kidnap them and cease all contact from their father. Smfh. I’m sick of these bio dads who show up on the scene AFTER the fact, acting all bewildered and hurt. They let these narcissistic mothers abscond with the kids because they don’t care. If this happens to you you fight like hell, contact the news, police, a lawyer, go viral, you don’t rest until you get your babies back. Also What a joke that he got that GFM money but isn’t even raising them.

Unfortunately GFM is like the new lottery to people!

An Adams County jury found James Christopher Anderson, 27, guilty of child homicide and felony child abuse, returning a verdict just before 7 p.m. Friday.

Judge Lillie Blackmon Sanders moved immediately into the sentencing phase of the trial, sentencing Anderson to 20 years on the child homicide of Armani Hill, 4, and 20 years on the felony child abuse of Lailah Hill, 3. She ordered the sentences to run concurrently, meaning at the same time.
Anderson took the stand in his own defense Friday, saying the children’s mother, LaKeshia Jones, was the one who abused the children. He said he was their protector, often taking the blame at times when the children would get in trouble in order to spare them punishment from their mother.

That’s the reason he gave for 3-year-old Lailah telling medical staff members that “J.C. hit us.”
He portrayed Jones as a violent parent, often hitting her daughters for little or no reason. He said he did not drink, but said she did, and would be violent when she was drunk. He said he did not like it when Jones drank because at the time she was pregnant with his son.
